Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. is a fast food restaurant franchise that was established in 1993 and is based in America, Canada, Germany and France. The franchise has had an immense amount of success over the last decade, with an annual revenue of 4.5 billion dollars in 2015. With its inception in 1993, Chipotle maintained a culture and mission that “food served fast didn’t have to be a ‘fast food’ experience.” (chipotle.com). Chipotle has become a cultural and societal phenomenon in the US. It has become one of the most popular restaurants for young Americans to enjoy, and its success and growth has been reflected through social media. “When it comes to time, different measures and uses prevail and can cause communication problems between Mexicans and Americans. Although Mexicans react negatively to some time traits of American culture, the difference in the two cultures’ use of time bothers North Americans more than it does Mexicans. Indeed, Americans often view Mexico's informal time system as a symptom of inefficiency when, rather, it evidences a different philosophy of life.” (Novinger, 2008). American Culture is based around time as a precious commodity, and a mindset of saving time and not wasting time. Every American has heard the phrase “Time is Money’, and this is the type of culture Americans live by. Mexicans live at a slower pace and have a mindset of living in the moment. Mexicans have a more laid back approach of living for the moment, not for opportunity. The culture of family and career also differ amongst Americans and Mexicans. Mexicans live by a culture which places family first, no matter what the circumstances are, whereas Americans seem to place their career in a higher regard. Mexican women also stand by a culture of a domestic role, caring for their family. American women have evolved to carrying a dual role of both domestic women and career oriented.
