In the story Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, Adeline compares herself to Mulan. Adeline courageously stands up for herself while facing many verbal and physical battles. Adeline is truly an inspirational character and will take many risks to protect the things she cares about.

Adeline fights for respect from her family and never gives up even when all odds are against her. Adeline needs to apply courage to her everyday life whether it is just taking the pain and moving forward or standing up for what she believes in. For instance, when little sister was getting beaten by Niang, Adeline stuck with what was right and stood up. “Quaking terror I blurted out, Don't beat her anymore. She's just a baby. My protest seemed to halt Niang in the midst of her protest. Little sister's screams simmered to a whisper.” (Yen Mah 34) Another example that required courage was when she was to be separated from her Aunt Baba. “The thought of being separated from my aunt filled me with dread. Somberly, I climbed the stairs and went back to the room and shared with her perhaps for the last time.” (Yen Mah 118) This shows how Adeline has enough self control to pick her battles and enough courage to follow through when
