Over 347 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with diabetes. One in 400 to 600 children and adolescents have type 1 diabetes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects that, if the trend continues, by 2050 one in three Americans will have the disease, and by 2030 366 million will be suffering from diabetes (“Diabetes Facts and Statistics”). Since 1980, the amount of diabetes cases have almost doubled from 153 million to 347 million in thirty years. The obesity rate in America has also gone up a significant amount since fast food restaurants are becoming more popular which increases the risk of developing diabetes for children in America. With all of the fast food companies on an uprise and the increase of poor eating habits in America, it causes this generation of children to live poorly with unhealthy lifestyles. For a lot of parents and teenagers, it may be more convenient for them to just make a stop at the local fast food restaurant instead of staying at home and preparing a healthy home cooked meal. Many high processed foods are also available at grocery stores, even making it difficult to prepare healthy meals at home. When patients are diagnosed with diabetes, it may be a shock to them because they had little to no side effects that warned them of the disease. For as common as the disease is, there are no cures for diabetes; however, there are ways to maintain it. An excess amount of different people get diabetes with or without seeing symptoms beforehand, but with medications, a proper diet, and good exercise, the disease can be maintained.

...diagnosed with the disease can also cause a lot of people around them to have their lifestyle change as well because they have to be there to support the patient they may do similar things that the diabetic child may have to do so that the child feels normal. Things like this may include exercising with the child or dietary changes. If the nation continues to follow the same eating patterns and physical activity patterns that are happening today, the nation is going to develop many more cases of diabetes. If families would introduce their children to healthier foods and more exercise we would in turn have a lot healthier of a nation. Once diabetes is developed there is no turning back. An abundance of different people get diabetes with or without seeing symptoms beforehand, but with medications, a proper diet, and good exercise, the disease can be maintained.
