Then recently a study was conducted and began to comprehend that childhood is a unique and important part of life. Isolation is the start of stage five, and this is noticed in early stages of adulthood when they are starting to explore personal relationships. When a young adult creates a close and committed relationship they will become successful at feeling committed and secure. Erikson believed that it was very important for a young adult to experience this stage because it will give the young adult a sense of personal identity, which is vital to creating intimate relationships with others. Erikson realized that if a young adult doesn’t experience this type of building skills, they would suffer from emotional isolations or possible less committed relationships. In adulthood, they will start the Generativity vs. Stagnation, stage seven. This is where the adult will start to focus on careers and family. When an adult goes through this stage, they will become successful and experience a sense of contribution to the world. Here is where they will start being active in their home and to the community. An adult that fails to learn this stage will not be as productive and have no involvement in the world. When a child is taught to be proud of these accomplishments, this will follow through into adulthood and thus will follow with their life partner. The final stage is called Integrity vs. Despair, which is noticed during their old age and they start to look back on their life. When they feel proud of what they have done and accomplished in their life, they will show a sense of integrity with very few regret in what they did. Three of Erikson’s psychosocial stages encompass infancy, adolescence, and late adulthood. Infancy begins at birth and lasts for one year. The social need in infancy depends on upon the child’s physical needs. If the parents and guardians meet the child’s needs, the child will develop a simple sense of trust. If the parents do not meet the child’s needs, it will lead to mistrust. Additionally, adolescence begins in the teen years and last into the twenties. The social need in adolescence becomes identity. Teenagers struggle with finding themselves during this stage and sometimes become confused. From the video observation, the two three-year old children, Thomas and Riley set off on a bus journey along with their childminder; it is observed that both the children speak about their journey, in which they are able to identify various features, which include the passengers; various buildings and different types of buses. Both children observe many of the features by taking photographs to highlight what they have observed on their journey. From observation, the video looks at the way the childminder plans the experience from a child-initiated stance, which directs the children’s learning in addition with assisting them with role-play and symbolic play, which is shown towards the end of the video. Thus, this essay will focus on the importance of early physical development within the Early Years framework, as well as the influence of the family with reference to the children along with the childminder. These stages help parents of younger children understand what the child is thinking and why they are acting the way that they do. This is a theory that describes stages in which an individual should pass as they are going through life. His theory includes nine stages all together. The original theory only included eight stages but Erikson‘s wife found a ninth stage and published it after his death. The rate of development and growth varies dependent on many factors such as age and genetic disposition. There is a broad spectrum of physical and psychological changes that are part of the maturation and life of the individual. Growth is a physical change that can be weighed and measured. Development is a person’s behaviors and thinking patterns. Growth and development are processes that together make up the individual.

Erikson’s stages has given me a chance to examine my life from birth in diverse stages. The channel of life that I have gone through from my early childhood and most parts of my adult life. Erikson’s psychosocial development has helped me to understand the changes as I go through life. Erikson stages is a set of guide to pave my way in to adulthood. I have learn that each stage is a form of representation of a foundational shift of life. Erikson’s psychosocial theory discovers that our development normally proceeds throughout nine developmental stages that have a moral concept of life itself.
Young adults think differently than adolescents and they have different views and opinions on things. During adulthood, an individual begins to discontinue their risky behaviors such as having sex without protection, driving recklessly, and playing dangerous sports. On the other hand, some people still continue this behavior while in adulthood but it is not common. Many people believe that the key sign of actually becoming an adult is financially supporting oneself. This step occurs sooner to the students who either do not attend college or do not finish high school. Students which go to college, this occurs to them later on in life. Establishing intimacy is the sixth step in Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development, “intimacy versus isolation.” Once a person has established their own identity, they are prepared to establish a “shared identity” (intimacy) with another person. Men and women resolve intimacy issues very differently, for instance, some women establish intimacy by getting married and having children, before they actually establish their identity. As I personally take the time to have a reflection over the course of “Child and Adolescent Development” I find myself intrigued with the amount of knowledge I gained during this course this semester. I wanted to take the time to concentrate on three specific areas in which I felt I had the most growth, but also came as a challenge to me as well. It is important when reflecting over a course that I look at what I found to be challenging, as this was an opportunity of growth for me individually. In this paper I will review some of the main topics that I found to be interesting but also resourceful for my future aspiration not only as a family life educator but also a mother one day.
