Recommended: Effect of abuse on child development

Many people have suffered from child abuse, thus making it a very sad subject. One in six boys and one in four girls suffer from child abuse. Evidence shows there is no real way to stop all of it because it is scattered everywhere. “Most children become victims of abuse and neglect at 18 months or younger.”(Staff)
People don’t realize how it affects the victim down the road. “About 80 percent of 21-year-olds who were abused as children met criteria for at least one psychological disorder” (Smith). Later on in life when it is happening in some cases they can have anti-social lives. “As if the abuse during the rituals were not enough, this child experiences similar abuse at home on a daily basis. When she tries to talk about her pain, she is told that she must be crazy. "Nothing bad has happened to you;' her family tells her Each day she begins to feel more and more like she doesn't know what is real. ”(Staff). Sometimes they can be destructive to themselves and others. In some instances, kids do not understand that when they hurt themselves that they are not only hurting themselves they are hurting so many more people. When this happens to victims they have a harder time adapting to their surroundings therefore having a maladaptive life. These people are not just affected when it is happening, it can damage their lives for down the road experiences.

Victims of these horrible instances of abuse or neglect have physiological problems throughout their whole life. Child abuse is a very big problem that is harder to discover but if we all try a little harder we could uncover or find out more cases. The punishments that are given out no are not harsh enough; they need to be harder on the abuser.
