A child’s guardian or parent ignores the signs of an abused child, which leads to a malfunction to the child. The guardian or parent fails to seek a psychological therapist which can help intervene to cause less psychological problems. The mistreatment that the child received affects a child’s mentality, brain size, and development due to the lack of a psychological therapist. The abuse that a child receives causes a child to malfunction, since they felt that they were not protected and were harmed. People can overcome their problems which defeats the developmental delays. Those who have mental problems were born with it or harm by the pollution by chemicals. When a child remains silent, it is either that they are not sure that they been abused. Studies have shown that children make the story up as they grow up. Child abuse is a global problem Child abuse in the U.S. is a shame to our American society and an unnecessary act that achieves nothing but bad actions towards another person. In the U.S. child abuse has increased along the years and just seem to be getting more horrendous. It is a recurring issue that has been happening all around the world to innocent young children and most of these cases are being kept quiet about because they are too scared to tell someone what is really going on behind a closed door. We have dug deeper into the social problem of poverty by defining it and discussing characteristics of poor children, why children live in poverty, the consequences of growing up in poverty and the correlation between homelessness and being poor. We have delved into substance abuse, paying special attention to both addicted parents and children. We have examined the affects of violence in the home, by peers and in schools, as well as the epidemic of bullying.
There has been an enormous amount of research, going back almost thirty years, about the relationship between childhood trauma, and juvenile delinquency. Many researches cannot say that there is a direct link between the two, but after much research, researches have found that childhood trauma can perhaps be a predictor for juveniles who later in life commit crimes. Both have similar effects in that they have been found to increase the risk of the development of a psychotic disorder and psychotic symptoms in adults. I am a 15 year old student from Waukon High School in Iowa, and I wanted to talk to you about child abuse. I think that child abuse is a terrible thing, and the people that do it should be sent away for a long time. The people that do it are terrible people because they abuse children that did not do anything to them. They should never gain their right to see their children, or be able to go near any children, and be with them by themselves, or with anybody else that wants to hurt children. The people that hurt the innocent children should be questioned and accounted guilty for child abuse. They could not be ruder and treat the children with more disrespect than they already do.
What is child abuse? Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through act or fault to act, causes harm, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child abuse, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, mistreatment and emotional abuse. Every year, more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States alone. Those are the only ones that are on record, but how many more cases are there that Child Protected Services aren’t aware of.
Child maltreatment can affect any child, usually aged 0-18, and it occurs across socioeconomic, religious, ethnic or even educational backgrounds. Arguably, child abuse and neglect is a violation of basic human rights of a child resulting from social, familial, psychological and economic factors (Kiran, 2011). Familial factors include lack of support, poverty, single parenthood, and domestic violence among others, (McCoy and Keen, 2009). The common types of child maltreatment include physical abuse, emotional maltreatment, neglect, and sexual abuse among others. Abuse and neglect can lead to a variety of impacts on children and young people such as physical, behavioral as well as psychological consequences which will affect the development and growth of the child either positively or negatively based on the environment and agency. More so, emotional, cognitive and physical developmental impacts from child neglect in the early stages of childhood can be carried on into adulthood. Research findings reveal that the experience of maltreatment can cause major long-term consequences on all aspects of a child’s health, growth as well as intellectual development and mental wellbeing, and these effects can impair their functioning as adults. Commonly, the act of abuse/ or neglect toward a child affects the child’s physical, behavioral development and growth, which can be positive or negative, depending on the child’s environment and agency. Another way to understand how the act has affected the child is to look at the child for who they are, and interviewing and observing their behaviors of their everyday life.
What distinguishes neglect from additional forms of maltreatment is its inherent omission of behaviour rather than a commission of behaviour, as in the case of physical or sexual abuses (Sagatun & Edwards, 1995; Zuravin, 1991). Over recent years, it has been increasingly recognized that child neglect has a more severe and adverse impact on children’s development than abuse (Hildyard and Wolfe 2002; Trickett and McBride-Chang 1995).
A child who suffers child abuse also have social problems, they have problems with interacting with other children. They tend to be nasty to other children, they do not have the courage to have close relationships with others, this is because they lack social skills. This child tends to have aggressive behavior, they are hostile and less attentive to social cues. They are unable to handle their personal problems and blame others for almost everything.

Neglect is a type of maltreatment that refers to the failure by the caregiver to provide needed, age-appropriate care although financially able to do so or offered financial or other means to do so. Neglect is an ongoing pattern of lacking care and is normally observed by close people in close contact with the child. Usually physicians, nurses, day care-sitter, relatives and neighbors are normally the ones to suspect and report infants, toddlers, and preschool age children. Once a child is in school , the school personnel often notices symptoms of child neglect.Children of teenage mothers suffer a higher rate of neglect and face a difficult future. An awareness campaign aimed at expectant teen moms will reduce the bad effects of neglect.
Around the world hundreds of thousands of kids are being beaten and sexually assaulted, however many people do not understand just how many kids are going home, if they even have a home, afraid for their life. One out of every five girls are a victim of abuse, and one in every eight boys are a victim of abuse (David Finkelhor). Abuse does not just stop at the bruise of the child, the pain on the surface is what we can see and is all we think the child is going through. However fear can last months, years, or even a life time, and can lead to life threating problems even as they become an adult. The children that get abused are not just living their life in fear but they no longer have a chance to be a child anymore, because of this; people that commit the crimes of physical and sexual abuse should have a greater punishment, because no child deserves to not have a childhood as a result of another person’s actions. Currently in the United States, a punishment could last one year up to twenty years in prison depending on the state, how old the child is, and how much damage has been done (Sandra Norman-Eady). However, they do not account for any mental damage to the child, just by the amount of physical damage.
