Child Abuse and Neglect Child abuse and neglect is something that happens every day all around the world. “Child neglect is a form of child abuse, and is a deficit in meeting a child’s basic needs, including the failure to provide adequate health care, supervision, clothing, nutrition, housing as well as their physical, emotional, social, educational and safety needs (Wikipedia).” Every year more than 3.6 million referrals are made to child protection agencies involving more than 6.6 million children. Consequently, the United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations- losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse or neglect (childhelp.org). With these statistics comes more issues such as their health. According to the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention links health problems in adults that have been abused. Some of those issues are violent partners, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, smoking and drinking at an early age, depression and suicide attempts.
