The story of Chick-fil-A first started in 1946, when Truett Cathy opened his first restaurant, Dwarf Grill, in Georgia. In the 1960s, with the success of his innovative idea of the chicken sandwich, Mr. Cathy founded Chick-fil-A, Inc. After Mr. Cathy launched Chick-fil-A restaurants in shopping malls in 1967, it became the largest fast chicken chain in the United States. Now the company has over 1,900 locations in 42 states and Washington, D.C. Their annual sales for 2014 were nearly $6 billion. Chick-fil-A’s purpose is “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. They are known for their innovative concepts and their desires to achieve customer’s needs and demands. From quick serve to full service, some of Chick-fil-A innovative concepts are Mall Restaurants, Drive-Thru Only Outlets, and Stand-alone Restaurants. Chick-fil-A considers mall-based restaurants is an integral part of its growing business and today nearly 300 restaurants are in operation. Chick-fil-A is known for its attention to customer needs and demands, so it has opened 1300 stand-alone restaurants since 1986. The stand alone restaurants is in response to Chick-fil-A’s customers’ demand for convenience and accessibility. Becoming and staying a part of the community is vital for organizations. It is the community who continues to keep organizations in business. Over the past years, Chick-fil-A, Inc. focuses its giving in three key areas: Youth and education: Chick-fil-A offers scholarships to Team Members to be able to attend the colleges of their choices. Since Chick-fil-A is committed to higher educations, between 2009-2011, millions has gone towards scholarships and educational development to colleges and universities across the nation. Chick-fil-A also donates to support programs where an opportunity for areas kids to learn about various sports, team work, and leadership is provided. Community involvement and local giving: Each year, Chick-fil-A donates food to organizations who are treating sick or special needs children. In 2011 and 2012, Chick-fil-A also donated food to victims and relief workers impacted by the Colorado wildfires and massive tornados. Chick-fil-A supported Military Appreciation Night where they fed over 13,000 military personnel and their families in 2012, as well as maintaining an ongoing partnership giving military personnel free sandwich coupons, since 2006.
