According to the AAA more than one-third of Americans will take a family vacation this year. Deciding where to travel on vacation can take weeks of discussion. Traveling to Chicago might seem to be a fun vacation idea, but some may find crowded cities to be a regrettable event. The same could go for somewhere full of natural scenery like Niagara Falls; the sights of the natural wonder may be beautiful, but once you go beyond that, there isn't as much to occupy your time like in Chicago. I have gone to many destinations on vacation from Denver, Colorado, in the West to Washington D.C. in the East. These destinations offer shopping malls and downtown centered stores. A city like San Francisco or New York have multi storied complexes filled with hundreds of stores. Another form of entertainment is amusement parks. One of the common amusement parks located from coast to coast is Six Flags and they draw people in with the ecstasy of 300 foot drops down a roller coaster. Museums may be tranquil compared to a roller coaster ride, but they are also a form of entertainment offered by some vacation destinations. The Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and Natural History Museum in Chicago display the Earth’s past and the accomplishments of the human race. Like an amusement park another form of entertainment can be found several hundred feet in the air. Skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building, allow for a view, miles across the entirety of the city it's located in. With billions of dollars transacted each year the sports industry is clearly in high demand and is one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world. Almost every densely populated city in the U.S.A have Major League sports teams and stadiums for them to play in. First, vacations can be classified by upper class institutions. Metropolitan destinations are able to more offer expensive upper class institutions compared to smaller cities. They are able to do provide these institutions because of the quantity of money flowing into the city due to business. Famous Chefs establish themselves in these locations and build fine dining Michelin Star winning restaurants. Institutions such as 5 star hotels pop up in these cities as well. Other upper class institutions are well known theatre and opera destinations, Broadway in New York offers dozens of recently created screenplays and returning classics. Tours of metropolises and their upper class institutions can be held from a bus, helicopter, and through a private chauffeurs service. Lastly, vacations can be classified by lower class institutions. Vacation destinations with a lower population than the metropolises of San Antonio and New York have comparable institutions but of a lower class. Any restaurant that thrives in a city dependent on its natural wonder to draw people into its doors is likely not owned by an award winning chef and the food that is served there is also likely to be far below the culinary standards of a 5 star restaurant. Sporting institutions are at the collegiate level or the Minor Leagues. Vacation destinations with lower class transportation do not involve a subway or bus transit. Shopping
