Sitting at the kitchen table in our house that we recently built and moved into on the outskirts of Pillager near Camp Jim, I began to question my mother about her childhood. As we began talking about her childhood I could see a little twinkle in her eyes as she remembered how much fun it was being a kid and not having to worry about all the problems grown ups have to deal with every day. My mother was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico and by the age of two her family had moved to Colorado. While they lived in Colorado my mother's family lived with her dad’s brother. They stayed in Colorado for just over a year until her fathers job in the military took them to several east coast states. The most memorable state was Fayetteville, North Carolina because she was old enough to actually remember the short stay they had in the state. Shortly after my mother had entered fifth grade her father got orders to go to Lima, Peru to help on the military base there. Her family lived in a wonderful house just outside of town. In the beautiful house my mothers sisters and her made memories that they will never forget, like making mud pies out of sticks and mud. After two years of living in Lima they moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina for three years, and back to Lima for two years. Throughout all of the moving and changing of schools my grandmother was the main caretaker of all the kids and made sure they were doing well in school, while also making sure there was food ready when everyone got home. Her father was the working man of the family,he brought home the money to support the family. During school events like softball and other school activities my grandmother would always be there to support the girls, but my mother can only recall one tim... ... middle of paper ... ... dates before they even got to know his true personality. “ I loved my childhood, I couldn’t have asked for a better one.” is what my mother told me talking about her childhood. My mother lived her childhood to the fullest and enjoyed every second of it even if she didn't have everything she wanted. As she moved from home to home and school to school she realized her best friends forever were her sisters. Even up to today she talks to her sisters every day even though Larissa lives all the way in Wichita,Kansas. My mother enjoyed playing barbies, baby dolls, and house with her sisters. Even though their father didn't always seem like he was supporting them he kept the family together and always made sure they had everything to live a comfortable life. As they got older my grandfather has became a much bigger part of their life and does anything to make everyone happy.
