Chemicals
The way, we the humans, treat our own environment can be devastating. This is where the respective role of governments can make decisions that shape environmental policy and responsibilities. These governments can be broken up into four different levels: local, state, federal and international. Air chemical pollution and biodiversity are two current issues that can be related to the role of governments. Global warming is also another implication that has a devastating effect on the environment. Current examples include the rise in sea levels, polar meltdowns, melting of ice sheets as well as glaciers and human deaths due to disease from the effects of global warming. Firstly, the environment can be defined as the natural features of our surroundings such as plants and animal life, water, soils and the atmosphere. The solutions to these problems include improvements, and improvements must be done in the near future. This to maintain the world we live in, countries need to work together and create laws on the chemical outlet. Today we have to many nations working for themselves, but with the European Community (EC) we have made a start of a new era. This is a chance to collect and dispose chemicals in a right way. Together the different governments from different countries will support the development of an international strategy to observe and manage "air toxics". The air toxics strategy will monitor and establish the levels of community exposure and manage emissions of selected air toxics. (Taken from the EC directives 1999)

Air pollution is an ongoing and serious problem. From Mexico to Argentina, pollutants in the air have reached dangerous levels, with implications for both public health and the planet’s changing climate (Maxwell). There are many solutions that can be used; there are international standards that can be adopted in Latin America, clean transportation and energy generation technologies. If those who govern the countries within Latin America work to get their countries off of dirty fossil fuels, the skies will clear up and their people will breath freely. For example, “the Chilean Environmental Superintend has taken significant steps against big polluters, forty-nine sanction proceedings are underway this year, with only one acquittal. The firms in question are required to invest time and money in fo...
Currently there is much being done to limit the amount of pollution being released in the environment. There are federal regulations as well as state regulations on the amount of discharge that can be released. In such events as the Montreal Protocol, about 180 countries have come together in an attempt to eliminate the release of all chlorofluorocarbons, (CFC’s), in the near future. CFC’s are responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer. Finally, the EPA has the ability to levy taxes of 50,000 on companies for each ton of glop created.
Ever since the devastating results of the use of chemical weapons in World War One, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has set up a convention to prohibit chemical weapons. 100 out of the 106 countries on our planet have signed this convention. One of the six countries that has yet to sign this convention is Syria. Syria has been the recent target of chemical weapon controversy, after a sarin gas attack in Damascus on its own citizens on the morning of August 21st, 2013. “1,429 innocent citizens including 426 children” were killed in this attack (BBC News). Syria’s stockpiling and transportation of chemical weapons has forced the hand of the United States executive branch. This forced foreign policy of the US is the “red line” that US can not back down from. The United States foreign policy with Syria is effective because Syria is following through with the destruction of its chemical weapons on the UN’s and United States’s timeline.
Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.
Environmental issues expand into a global level, and it is not likely tackled by the country itself. A raising awareness on the environmental matter among nations, the cooperation between nations is essential. In the three articles, they have adopted different approaches to address the environmental issues. However, three of them view the problem not only in signal angle, either with inter – discipline or multi – level perspective. The authors of the three essays have indicated governments play an important role for managing those

Who’s going to save the world is up to cooperation of all living on the planet. Population and industrial growth is unlikely to stop; however, it is in the public’s best interest globally to have awareness of global pollution. Throughout history there have been individual who were concerned and took action, these are the individuals that pushed for the regulations we have today. As the climate changes around the world, it is time for us—humans, industries and government to enhance and enforce the regulations. Consumers have the power to demand better industrial waste management methods from companies. Waste management strategies need to be strictly enforced and followed by industries worldwide. Developing clean habits and techniques to improve pollution need to be a global effort.
Harrison, RM 2001, Pollution: Causes, Effects and Control, 4th edn, The Royal Society of Chemistry, Cambridge, UK.
In The Development of Environmental Regimes: Chemicals, Wastes, and Climate Change, the authors provide a simple framework to analyze the development of global environmental regimes (GER) which ultimately addresses why states sometimes agree to cooperate on global environmental issues despite divergent interests. The chapter is divided into five subsections but begins with an introduction to explain the five processes involved in the development of GERs. The authors address questions such as who forms GERs and how are they formulated. Next, they apply the processes involved in the development of GERs to four case studies that are linked to global environmental issues: ozone depletion, hazardous waste, toxic chemicals, and climate change, respectively. The authors conclude that states and non-state actors can come together to address global environmental issues but not without obstacles.
Efforts to improve the standard of living for humans--through the control of nature and the development of new products--have also resulted in the pollution, or contamination, of the environment. Much of the world's air, water, and land is now partially poisoned by chemical wastes. Some places have become uninhabitable. This pollution exposes people all around the globe to new risks from disease. Many species of plants and animals have become endangered or are now extinct. As a result of these developments, governments have passed laws to limit or reverse the threat of environmental pollution.
Whether humans choose to face it or not, pollution is one of the single largest killers of the earth and humans; affecting almost 100 million people around the world (Paragraph 1 – Fact 1). Not only is it extremely harmful to the environment, but it’s extremely harmful to all living beings including humans, animals, and aquatic life. Pollution is caused by a variety of man-made objects such as vehicles, products, or services such as power plants, but pollution is not just limited to airborne toxins; garbage and chemicals are just a few more extremely harmful pollutants that affect the land environment. Over the past 250 years since the beginning of the industrial revolution, there has been a drastic increase in the amount of pollution released
In recent decades, the harmful effect of human activities on the environment and the connection between environmental health and human well-being have become well known and of international concern . Therefore the need for governmental restrictions on environmentally harmful activities has become one of the main measures to tackle this concern .

Contemporary subjects of international fear covered by environmental law include ozone layer depletion and global warming, etc. International collaboration in the system of treaties, agreements produced by intergovernmental organizations are being used to defend and protect the environment. In fact, the documents from the foremost organizations concerned with protection of the environment such as the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the European Union, the OECD, and the Council of Europe are from vital significance. Meanwhile crucial responsibility for the protection of the environment remains at the national and local level. Also, municipal laws and regulations connected to the environment are progressively being required.
Are you aware of the detrimental impacts that we have had on our environment? Every second, the Earth is being polluted by poisonous gases, waste products and due to human activities, the world’s climate is dramatically changing. In other words, these impacts do not only harm our environment but also our health. It has been scientifically proven that air pollution causes respiratory diseases and cancer, due to the inhalation of all the harmful chemicals. Water pollution can also lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases and other waterborne disease, due to the intake of bacteria and parasites. Many people have died due to these health-related illnesses. So why are we still living in this awful condition? Air sustains us and water is a basic necessity, so we should do what we can to prevent pollution. In short, we should protect our environment to ensure a healthy life a...
