1. Chad Christian Clift Offers his Best Kitchen Tip
Seattle Chef Chad Christian Clift has worked in the Culinary Arts for decades. His extensive training and work experience in and out of the kitchen has earned him a positive reputation in the upper northwest of the United States. Over the years, Clift has developed a set of tips and techniques that not only make his daily kitchen adventures easier, but are applicable to many home cooks.
According to Clift, one of the most important tips to cooking a successful meal is the need to stay organized. A well thought out recipe or menu is only as successful as the organization that went into the preparation. While there are some instances where a chef or home cook can simply throw items together

Chad Christian Clift and the Monthly Meal Plan
Though he spends much of his time in the professional kitchens of Seattle, Chef Chad Christian Clift understands that many home cooks run their own kitchens in a different manner. He recommends that the men and women who are concerned with feeding themselves and their families make a plan to create meals for a month at a time. This may seem like too much work for the normal person, but he assures his friends and associates that it is really not that difficult.
He believes that creating, and sticking to, monthly meal plans helps to cut grocery costs and frees up time for actual cooking. When a person develops their own meal plan, they are far more organized in general. There is never a debate about what is for dinner on any given night. Doing this also allows for prep work to be done during free times. Being able to take some of the strain out of the cooking process allows families to eat healthier, more well rounded meals, on the weeknights. Many adults complain that there is not enough time in their day for real cooking, especially after taking care of children and working their own jobs. With a monthly meal plan, these schedules can be accommodated more easily. Chad Christian Clift also explains that a monthly meal plan lowers grocery costs because shoppers get to buy in bulk, which gives them a better per item price on standard

“You know, nobody can ever cook as good as your mama.” These words were spoken by one of the most iconic Southern chefs of all time, Paula Deen. Not only has she formed a legacy with her countless cookbooks, magazines, and television programs, Deen also helps out by donating her wealth and continuing to fight poverty with foundations such as The Bag Lady Foundation. With Paula’s doll-blue eyes, down-to-earth cooking styles, strong love for her close-knit family, and recent controversies, Ms. Deen has undoubtedly become one of the best known chefs in this current generation.
How often does one think about when his/her next meal will be? If you are the average American, the answer will most likely be “in a couple of hours”; however, there is a good chance that you might also be one of the fifty million Americans that would most likely answer “I don’t know… whenever I can afford it, I guess.” Roughly every one in six Americans would have some sort of response like the one presented because that is how many are considered food insecure. This is obviously one of the most important social problems afflicting America in modern times, but what can be done about it? A Place at the Table displays three scenarios: Barbie, a struggling mother of two; Rosie, a fifth grader living meal
Or the Japanese. Or the Italians. Or the Greeks” because he declares that “if it weren’t so healthy, the people who follow it wouldn’t still be around” (Pollan). He emphasizes not only on what they eat, but how they eat, so aspects such as small portions and no seconds are significant. I comply with this rule because at home, we focus more on feeling full than taking pleasure in the taste of the food. Berkeley Wellness also refers to this in their “14 Keys to a Healthy Diet”. The author advises that we should check serving sizes especially when choosing to eat higher-calorie foods. When my parents prepare a meal, they always serve us in small or medium sized plates that way there is an illusion of enough food on the plate, when in reality it’s most likely less than we might think. Additionally, my parents’ home cooked meals are almost exactly enough for the entire family and rarely are there ever leftovers. This is because my parents consider the serving size for each of us and they nearly never allow seconds, unless it 's on special occasions such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, but even then they have to consider it. Keeping an eye on my food portion and serving size leads to a healthy and balanced diet. This is because it allows me to consider the portions for protein, vegetables, fruits, grains and dairy and consume all the possible nutritions I
Some complain about having too much food and others complain about not having enough food. Since most of us, depend on the dining halls for food, we don’t necessarily think about what we eat; we just eat what’s available (Mei). Some students on campus, however, actually don’t get the luxury of often going to the dining halls, usually because of the type of meal plan they chose. Even without having an accessible dining hall, college students could still make their own meals without the use of processed foods. For example, instead of eating ramen, we could actually utilize our small kitchen that is provided for us in all of the dorms. The small kitchen isn’t often used for making actual meals, instead it’s used to heat up frozen meals. In the three months that I’ve been at Denison, I’ve only seen some international students try to make a meal within our small kitchen. It’s mostly seniors, who live in the senior apartments, or upperclassmen, who live in the Homestead – a type of residence hall similar to senior apartments, that utilize the
Research proves that low-income families will shop wherever the food prices are lower, and generally cannot afford to pay for healthful foods. In comparison to the residents of higher income communities, low-income households normally have diets that are higher in meat and processed foods and often have low intakes of fruits and vegetables. Research suggests that people with low socioeconomic status spend up to 37% more on food. This is because of smaller weekly food budgets in addition to poorly stocked stores. Those with lower income are more likely to spend money on inexpensive fats and sugars versus fresh fruits and vegetables that are more costly on a per calorie basis. Healthy foods like whole grain products are more expensive than high calorie junk foods.

I’ve ended up as a cook through a series of serendipitous events, but I think that no matter what I would have ended up doing, I would have ultimately made it about bringing people together — about fostering community, fostering goodwill. Cooking is a very straightforward way of doing that, because eating is such a social act. People, by their very nature, want to come together around the table and eat. People are hungry for an excuse to come together and eat — to come together and do anything,
Eating out is not always a convenient option, or even the best option. Cooking at home
Having good organization is not just having your supplies organized, it having yourself together. Being organized will make you feel prepared for your classes and you feel like you have everything in order.
People think that the price of fast food is cheaper than a home-cooked meal. Although many people like to eat fast food because of it is inexpensive and tasty, the actual price of the fast food is not exactly same like the menu. The price of fast food sounds affordable, but actually it is quite expensive. This is because people are influenced by the fast food restaurant’s advertisement. It illustrates the price of a set of fast food is affordable compared to cooking at home. When people go to the fast food outlet, they realize the price at the bill is not as same as the advertisement stated. The price is even higher than the price stated at the advertisement. Although the fast food advertisement provides the information that the price of fast food is low, the price in the advertisement does not include the tax and tips. On the other hand, cooking at home is much cheaper than eating fast food. It is always affordable, healthier and more emotional fulfillment when eating at home and cooking ingredients compare to eating out (Warner, 2015). The people only need to buy the ingredients and cook it by our own.It is always affordable because people only need to pay ingredients and cook it at home. There are no tax and extra tips! If people prepare their food in large quantities at home, it is more economical than buy several sets of fast food. According to Yeager (2010), “A family that commits to eating at home can save $3000 in one year and eat just as well,” (p. 52). Save and
When I first learned to cook about six years ago, there were no magazine articles or books in bookstores explaining how to cook; there were only cookbooks with recipes for one to decipher. Today, the articles and books that explain how to cook are minimal. Not everyone can compete with Julia Child in cooking gourmet food with the menu devised in our minds without referring to cookbooks, but many of us can learn to cook effectively. A step-by-step process should be followed to learn how to cook successfully.
Good cooking doesn’t always come naturally, but when skill’s and/or talents are perfected strengths such as cooking can become fun or even a hobby. Good cooking is something that takes time and skill and good cooking can’t be rushed otherwise the food does not come out the way it is supposed to. Another key factor of good cooking is to always know what is going on and what the next step in the process is.
When families eat at home they know everything that has been added in their meal and know the cleanliness of their own kitchen. Moreover, they know if the food was washed and cooked well. At home they know that the cook has washed his/her hands. Also at home they know their hygiene.
