Is Cheerleading a Sport?
All cheerleaders like to prove that cheerleading is a sport, but a majority of people like to argue with them and say cheerleading is not a sport. Cheerleaders mainly think school cheer and competitive cheer are sports. Meanwhile, other people think school cheerleading is not a sport, but declare competitive cheerleading is a sport.
Why do cheerleaders think school cheer is a sport? A Black Knight cheerleader, Madison Glidewell, thinks school cheerleading is a sport because her definition of a sport is being physically active. When asked what the hardest part of cheerleading is ¨the stunting and holding the 130 pound girl up in the air.” says Glidewell. Glidewell states …show more content…

According to King, cheerleading is not hard, however King mainly thinks it is tough. “Cheerleading is tough because we have to lift girls in the air, throw them up and are expected to catch them. Lifting them and doing it properly it is not an easy thing to do.” says King. The North Davidson cheerleading team constantly practices the stunts to become more comfortable, and to become more accurate in their cheers.
Why do people think school cheerleading is not a sport? People say school cheerleading is not a sport because when we think of a sport we think of having a competition against a team. Some schools do not have the ability to compete at competitions. “One can be an athlete and not participate in a sport. And one can participate in a sport and not be very athletic.” says (ESPNw).
