In March 2018 the Australian Cricket Team was caught being involved in ball tampering against the 3rd test match against south Africa in Cape town. Cameron Bancroft was caught tampering with the ball before he bowled on live television. Later, the captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner where found to also be involved in the scandal (Wikipedia, 2018). The ball tampering scandal is a huge issue in both cricket and other sports. It promotes cheating and puts shade on the team and cricket as a sport itself. Not only does it shame the Australian team, but it also shames Australia as a country, it will take years for the matter to be looked over.

Not only that but it has shown even more cheating in Australia’s high-level sport with AFL being last year and this year it is cricket. It distinguishes Australia to other countries as cheaters and shady and these can have huge effects on Australia’s sport industry. Former cricketers Mitchell Johnson and Michael Clarke expressed their distaste with the actions by saying “Shocked and Disappointed” and Michael Clarke tweeting “Please tell me this is a bad dream” (ABC news, 2018). Even the PM Malcom Turnbull expressed his feelings by saying “This is a shocking disappointment and it's wrong”. Most of the nation is shocked and disappointed in the Australian cricket team, they have let down a huge number of fans and idols and this is what cricket is mainly based off, fans and the support of Australia but these recent events have let down a huge amount of the cricket fanbase. The main problem with the ball tampering scandal is the fact that it has been another major sporting incident that has occurred in Australia with its already long list of sporting disasters. This made it time straining and hard as I had to spend awhile trying to look for reliable sources that relate to my writing. The sources I did find however did provide what I needed and where reliable all except for one which was based in 2008. The outcome for my analysis was to write about the ball tampering scandal in cape town and writer about the effects it has on the sporting community of Australia and the future and present effects of it. I also wanted to write about the other sports in Australia but whilst still focusing on my main topic which was the ball tampering
