In Animal Farm there are many important characters. Each character represents an important personage. Some of the characters that played a main role in this book are Old Major, Snowball, and Boxer. In Animal Farm the animals rebel against the humans. This book is also an analogy to the Russian Revolution. In Animal Farm written by George Orwell, character is used as an effective allegory.

Old Major is an old and wise boar who made the first speech to the other animals about the idea of the rebellion. He died three days after he gave the speech and before the rebellion actually began. Old Major's role compares with Karl Marx and Vladimir Ilych Lenin who was the leader of the Russian Revolution. Old Major taught the animals in the farm the song of freedom which was "Beasts Of England". He had also created a philosophy called animalism. Animalism is used to represent communism. Snowball is a young and energetic boar. He had the ability to persuade the other animals. The animals on the farm had respect for Snowball and believed his teachings had a good cause and were true. He had fights with Napolean over the power on the farm. They held a contrast of how to run animal farm. Snowball had better qualities for running a farm. He had original ideas, such as building a windmill. Under the rule of Snowball the animals were usually content with what was going on. He also had a bond between the animals and himself.
