COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS:

1) How is your first impression of;

Old Major: He is a powerful and persuasive character and can be directed as the leader of the pack. “It is not crystal clear, comrades, that all the evils of this life of ours spring from the tyranny of human beings?” This is where it all began with his solution to overpower man which would result in equality with all the animals showing his enthusiasm and impeccable mental, persuasive power.

Boxer: Is a cart-horse, who has incredible strength, dedication and loyalty to show the type of character he portrays to be also shown in the quote “an enormous beast, nearly eighteen hands high, and as strong as any two ordinary horses put together”. He is one who can listen to ideas but isn’t able to think of them himself as he just admires other people’s revealed when he commented, “If comrade napoleon says it, it must be”.

Clover: She is another cart-horse with an incredibly heart-warming personality and is a “motherly” figure that is not in the best of shapes. “A stout motherly mare approaching middle life, who had never quite got her figure back after her fourth foal”.

She also takes the blame for the pig’s mistakes.

Benjamin: A donkey that’s the oldest and most experienced on the farm. He understands the hardships faced by man and seemed to quote “Donkeys lived a long time. None of you has ever seen a dead donkey” a reasonable amount. Short tempered

(however knows all the problems they could arise) and is close with boxer. Extremely stubborn and did not like the idea of a “rebellion”.

Mollie: She is a horse, but is stupid, materialistic and vain but is very pretty, her stupidity is portrayed when she was quoted asking, “Will there be sugar after ...

...en fields and greenery that was seen throughout England. It had a white hoof and horn on it which was representing the republic and individual rights animals had. “Every Sunday, the animals hold a flag-raising ceremony” to depict the importance of animals and how “some animals are ‘more’ equal than others”.

11) What happened to the milk and apples? How did squealer rationalize that?

It was later acknowledged that the pigs had eaten all the milk and apples as they “were trying to preserve their health so they could make good decisions as leaders of the animals” and squealer minimizes the situation by stating its better for the pigs as they are the brains and that they don’t like these kinds of foods but eat it so they could benefit the well being of the other animals on the farm. Which convinced the others into believing that this was all for a good cause.
