What is a tragic hero? A tragic hero is typically defined as a character in a literary work who has a lot of pride and makes a judgment error that leads to their ultimate demise. The downfall usually has to do with their pride.
In the play “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell; the character Mrs. Wright can be described as a “tragic hero”. A tragic hero, according to Dictionary.com is “a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy that is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat”. I agree with this because the character went far as killing her own husband to save herself from an ongoing depression and abusive relationship. The main character is a tragic hero because Mrs. Wright herself had a tragic flaw in character, her depression. There was also a tragic flaw due to fate because of the characters' isolation by the harsh winter. There was finally another tragic flaw due to fate because of Mrs. Write’s abusive husband.
A tragic hero can be defined as literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction. A well known novel in American Literature is The Great Gatsby which displays an example of a tragic hero. The author of the book, F. Scott Fitzgerald, portrayed an example of a tragic hero through the main character of the novel named Jay Gatsby. In the book Gatsby tries to accomplish the American Dream by gaining wealth and doing everything in his power to be with the love his life Daisy Buchanan. His whimsical ways granted him wealth and allowed him to be in the arms of his lover Daisy but, it also leads him to death. Jay Gatsby can be considered a tragic hero because he has a tragic flaw and because his misfortune was not wholly deserved.
Amanda Bynes has been portraying erratic behavior and people around her are citing their concerns. She recently made a claim of being as rich as the Olsen twins who have a net worth counting upto $300 million. People close to her say that Amanda has been spending a lot of money mindlessly and might run out of money if she doesn’t check her expenses. Further rumors happen to claim that she spent about $30,000 in a month. Bynes regularly claims that the news about her picturize a different Amanda from her and people shouldn’t be believing them and she further adds that her family and friends won’t be speaking on her behalf as she has snapped her ties with them.
I’m sure everyone knows who Martha Stewart is. Most people don’t even know what her occupation is, they just know the name Martha Stewart. Im also sure if you mention her name to different people you’ll get many different reactions. Stewart has a polarizing personality that is for sure. Martha is very bold with her perfectionism. We all know Martha from her cooking and house decorating shows. From when her company rose overnight in the New York Stock Exchange to make her company a billion-dollar company. Then of course from her fall from when she was convicted of insider trading in 2004. However, Martha’s commitment to educate about business and the art of fine living to others is very impressive.
What is a hero? A hero is someone who has achieved many goals in their life; someone admired for his impressive exploits; or someone who shows tremendous courage. A hero controls a great deal of power of authority, or strong influence over others. When people envision a hero, they usually think of a champion, a paragon, a conqueror, or a celebrity. Jimmy Connors represented all these qualities. He displayed power when he was on the tennis court, and he asserted his force off the court. Mr. Connors is a dominant, influential powerhouse.
Lindsay Lohan is a prime example of a tragic hero because of how she increasingly let her arrogance influence her actions and behaviors throughout time. Her early life presented she had everything she needed for a promising future, and though the pinnacle of her life didn’t last long, it was fulfilled her to the highest extent. Herself, and the people and events she encountered in her life led her to her downfall infused with her infamous tragedies. Lindsay Lohan’s fatal flaw caused her to stray away from her promising future and delve into a world of mistakes.
As defined by Aristotle, a tragic hero is “a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction.” In Tennessee William's A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche Dubois is a prime example of a tragic heroine. Blanche’s entire life could be considered a tragic one, bearing in mind all that has happened before and after she is introduced. Her mental state is unstable from the beginning of the book as she suffers from mental illness throughout Streetcar. On multiple occasions, Blanche has awkward or even uncomfortable interactions with others that shows her lack of intimacy and her delusion to the outside world. Due to her own and other characters choices, Blanche Dubois ultimately meets her ruin.

A hero/ heroine is described as the principal male/ female character in a literary or dramatic work or the central figure in an event, period, or movement. The classic tragic hero was defined by Aristotle in the fourth century as, “someone who is highly renowned and prosperous” (LATWP, 639), suggesting that there is a “natural right ordering and proportion of traits within the human being that if violated, produces calamity” (LATWP, 639). The book goes on to define classical tragedy as one that “involves the inevitable destruction of a noble person by means of character flaw, usually a disproportionate measure of a specific human attribute such as pride, jealousy or indecision” (LATWP, 639).
As a young child, Marilyn had trouble making friends her age. The only friend she had was her dog Tippy. Everyday Tippy would eagerly await her arrival. One day when, Tippy is killed from an accident, Marilyn was startled by his death. This traumatic event affected her so much that she was inconsolable for weeks. This could have lead to Maslow’s safety need for protection. Individuals motivated by this need, include physical security, stability, dependency, protection and freedom from threatening forces (Feist & Feist, 2009). Young Marilyn believed Tippy was murdered by the neighbors, and now they are after her too. Her guardian at the time, found this to be disturbing (Taraborrelli, 2010). This explains why she was always seeking protection and needed to depend on others. This was the beginning of her anxiety. This explains why she was always seeking dependency from others.
Oprah Winfrey is one of the most respected women in the world and who I consider a hero because she is cultured, courageous and humble. Some people might think that a hero is a strong person who enjoys fame and a high position in a society. According to Oxford Dictionary, a heroine is "a woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities” (Heroin, 2013). In my point of view, a hero is a selfless leader who has courageous and noble qualities, extensive knowledge, and who is committed to perform specific humanitarian tasks. These traits of a hero would leave the imprint of his/her successor to influence the world positively.
A tragic hero could be considered a "noble person with a fatal flaw" or "an opponent of society who is willing to take action that 'sensible people' might applaud
Webster’s New World dictionary gives one definition of a hero as “the central figure in any important event or period, honored for outstanding qualities.” Anyone you ask can name someone they view as their hero (from a parent, sports figure, fictional superhero, to a movie star) but very few people would actually define the word hero the same. A good general definition of a hero is a person who is idealized or admired for outstanding achievements, courage, bravery, noble qualities, and unselfish acts for others (Goins, 2012).
