The seventh stage of Erikson’s developmental stage is Generativity and Stagnation. Which comes a little later in life and it starts to tie everything together in a sense. When some is going through the Generativity stage in life you notice things such as being concerned about the well-being of others, caring for generations under that have come to be after them, they start to give in to the society around them, and they mirror characteristics that express parental concern for children (Hamachek, 1990). Stagnation is quite the opposite. This stage of life ties everything together and it serves as a time to reflect on life and accomplishments. When someone has a sense of Integrity they posses characteristics such as positively accepting their life and everything that they have done such as, experiences and endeavors. This stage also understands that death is apart of the life cycle and they come to terms with that, they begin to understand the consequences from earlier life decisions, and they are extremely happy and they are grateful and pleased with their success Hamachek, 1990). Despair is more on the negative side. Characteristics include being afraid of dying, not being able to accept the facts of situations in their past, they typically do not show compassion for their well-being, and they live in thoughts of depression and sorrow in a sense (Hamachek, 1990). In my opinion Ethel Norris was beyond comfortable in her skin and she was happy very knowledgeable about her ups and downs of her life and she grew from them and learned how to be very resilient (Finchum & Bishop, 2013). Features of the human body changes over time, they incline with age as well as decline and change over time. Changes take place in every aspect of human sensory; vision, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. It has a lot to do with how you treat yourself over time and what you put into your body. Physical activities also help with certain sensory aspects. When it comes to vision and age it’s like putting two layers of plastic bag in front of your eyes (Van Son & Fitzgerald, 2012). Presbyopia is a common health issue that is linked to older adults and vision problems. Older adults since of touch is also altered as time progresses and this may cause older adults skin to harden or certain parts of their skin to callus over. According to Van Son and Fitzgerald, smell and touch are really close to one another when it comes to aging. With age older adults lose their sense of some tastes fade and other heightens (Van Son & Fitzgerald, 2012). When you decline in one sense your other senses potentially become stronger. The last sensory that is tested within older adults is hearing. Hearing can become very hard. High-pitched sounds are easier to pitch up. Older adults that have problems hearing invest into hearing aids. Ethel did not mention having issues with any of her sense, but I did notice that she lost hear train if thought at times but she definitely picked it back up, and she
