The Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that there are three educational paths to become a registered nurse. These are a bachelor’s degree in nursing, associate’s degree in nursing and diploma in nursing. Nurses must also be licensed to practice nursing. All nursing education programs require students to take the following courses: anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition and psychology. All registered nurses must have a nursing license and must graduate from an approved nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure exam (NCLEX-RN). Nurses may become certified through professional associations such as ambulatory care. There are many skills and qualities that nurses must possess. Some these qualities include critical thinking skills, communication skills, compassion, emotional stability, organizational skills and physical stamina. My personality trait is ISTJ. I am an introversion person who talks less in groups of people but sensitive to information and takes time to think before making decisions, to get a clear judgment of what I do. This personality trait fits me in the nursing career very much since a nurse is expected to listen carefully to patients and gather information which is supposed to be analyzed before rushing to conclusions or an answer. This is also great for critical thinking which is very essential in the nursing field. To be sensitive helps me to act in both emergency and also empathetic way.
