Relationships are very outstanding, but sometimes they are very dreadful, like in the novel “The Wednesday Wars” by Gary D. Schmidt. Meryl Lee and Mrs. Bigio do not have the strongest relationship towards each other. Mrs. Bigio does not like Meryl Lee because she is from Vietnam but that all changes because of a couple people were making fun of her because she is from Vietnam. That all changed the next day when Mrs. Bigio wandered down to her classroom with a plate of Fried bananas from a Vietnam recipe that it exclaimed in the novel was “extremely good.” Mrs. Bigio laid it down on Meryl Lee’s desk and exclaimed “I'm very sorry.” In summary
The book Trouble,by Gary D. Schmidt, is based on the Smith family who lives in Blythbury-by-the-Sea, which is a small, quiet town by the Atlantic Shore. The family believes that if you build your house far enough from trouble, trouble will not be able to find you. Then, abruptly, their life takes a turn for the worse and trouble finds them. Henry, the youngest of the Smith family, and Franklin, the oldest of the Smith boys, planned a trip to climb the mountain of Katahdin, but now, because of the trouble, Henry sets out to climb it with his best friend Sanborn. On this journey, he meets the person who started the trouble in his family, Chay Chouan, who goes with him. The two characters Henry and Chay have characteristics and traits that are the same, but they also have very different personalities and backgrounds and family styles.
The Other Wes Moore is a novel that shows the different paths of two different men, one successful and the other not so fortunate. We discovered their different identities and how their choices and role models effect their lives. Wes 1 was led by his brave, hard working mother and the great military men. He didn't make incredibly great decisions but the people in his life helped him turn into the successful man he is today.However, Wes 2 had a brother who dealt drugs. How do fiction storytellers reveal a character’s actions and or characteristics? Fiction storytellers use things like conflicts, diction, and imagery to add a better description to a book. Most of these examples also hook the reader to want to learn more. The mood of a story is also revealed when using this examples. Wallace Stegner produces a positive outlook of adulthood in his coming of age short story “Chip Off the Old Block”. In this story, set during a flu epidemic in 1918, 12 year old Chet is left alone to attend to the family business after his family all contracted the flu. Chet confronts multiple obstacles such as managing the business and having to throw out two thieves by overcoming his childish tendencies. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton a teenage boy named Ponyboy lives with his two older brothers named Soda and Darry, and there is some controversy on whether or not his brothers are able to take proper care of Ponyboy. Derek Vinyard is a character in the film American History X. He is a great example of an anti-hero. Before prison, Derek Vinyard character is really unlikeable and he is sickening. He was a true definition of a villain. He is a former neo-Nazi who organizes crimes to destroy families and humiliate people. He even treats his own family with disrespect, such as in a scene where he grabbed his sister by her hair and shoves food down her throat. Later he spent three years in jail for man slaughtering two black men. He shot one and the other, he brutally curb-stomped to death outside his house for trying to steal his truck. At the start of Three Day Road we assume that Elijah and Xavier are very similar because they have such a close friendship and have the same indigenous background. However, when they are put into war we quickly realize that this is not the case. Even though they came from the same background they both experienced a very different childhood, which is lead to believe why they act very differently in the battlefield. Elijah was raised primarily in a residential school where he was subject to abuse. He was taught that his way of living was not right and he was forced to speak english and get rid of he indigenous background. A human being develops and grows throughout their life through many challenges and sometimes it takes an event in one’s life to change a person. In the novel “The Caine Mutiny” by Herman Wouk, is a novel about Willie Keith, a chubby and well educated son from an upper class family who joins the Navy. Willie goes into the Columbia University School of Journalism, which has been converted for the war effort. He is almost rejected because of his physical reasons of not being fit, but his Princeton background saves him from being rejected. As soon as he stepped in this navy life and went through a long journey with the navy crew , Willie became more independent, responsible and courageous.
Holling was a very interesting and very relatable person. He’s this pre-teen thats in middle school. He has a dad that only cares about work, his mom works around the house and his sister she work for Bobby Kennedy and she is a flower child. Holling is the only student in his classrooms on wednesday afternoons with Mrs. Baker. Half of his class is catholic, and half is lutheran, and they leave early on wednesdays to go to church.
Hilda Samuels and Hally’s mother can be compared and contrasted in Athol Fugard’s ‘Master Harold’… and the boys. They can be compared based on their relationship with the overbearing men in their lives as well as their absence in the play as a whole. They are both females; however, they are from different cultural backgrounds. There is a distinct difference between the race as well as the class of both females. The relationship between Hally’s father and mother as well as Willie and Hilda emphasises how dynamic the relationship between a domineering male and a subservient female can be. The two relationships reveal how similar the situations are even though the females are from completely different cultures.
African-Americans aged 12 and up are the most victimized group in America. 41.7 over 1,000 of them are victims of violent crimes, compared with whites (36.3 over 1,000). This does not include murder. Back then during the era of the Jim Crow laws, it was even worse. However, during that time period when there were many oppressed blacks, there were many whites who courageously defied against the acts of racism, and proved that the color of your skin should not matter. The Notebook (Cassavetes, 2004) is a love story about a young couple named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who fall deeply in love with each other. The Hamilton’s are financially stable, and expect for their daughter Allie to marry someone with the same wealth. Noah on the other hand works as a laborer, and comes from an underprivileged family. Throughout the film there were several negative behaviors, and interpersonal communications within the context of their relationship, which relates to chapter nine. This chapter explores relationships, emphasizing on affection and understanding, attraction, and the power of a relationship. I want to talk about Landon Cater being a dynamic character and the foreshadowing in the movie called “A Walk to Remember” because Landon Carter, the narrator, began to think about his life changing experiences that helped him and ones surrounding become better people. The movie starts off with Landon reminiscing about when him and his friends were underage drinking and severely injured another student during a prank. The prank was to jump off this high story building into a lake. However, the student Landon and his friends pressured into doing this was severely hurt and was also lead actor in the school play. The consequence of that event lead to Landon having to take the injured student position in the school drama play and that’s where he met Jamie. A dynamic character
People often act impulsively based on what they believe in, despite the consequences. For literary characters, their impulsiveness creates conflicting sides to their personalities which could help develop their character or undermine their roles in their novels. In the novel, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, the characters, Rachel Verinder and Godfrey Ablewhite, contain two different sides to their personality which develop their roles in the novel.
