Antoine de Saint Exupery is best known for his works such as The Little prince; Wind, Sand and stars; and Night Flight. But although he had succeeded through his works, he still had a life full of triumphs and hardships since he was one of the hundred and thousands of people who were in and have experienced the second world war. Exupery was born in Lyon France in the year 1900 where he was raised by a single mother in an aristocratic family. During this time he was rejected when he tried to join the Navy, however he found success when he joined the Air force and became an aviator there, fulfilling his dream of being able to fly again. James Petras, that class struggle is a two way proposition, that one class struggles to survive in the society by working, while the other classes merely gain from the labor of the working class. In the novella The Little Prince, the little prince visited some planets which are named in asteroids. In those asteroids we can find characters, characters which have very unique traits and characteristics. The Characters in the different asteroids are, The king, The Conceited man, The Drunkard, The Business man, The lamplighter, and The geographer (Thelittleprince.com editors, 2010). The king in the story is said to have absolute control over his planet. He gives “reasonable orders” to the little prince such as “sit down”, as a way to satisfy his thirst for power. From the following traits and characteristics that the King has shown us, we can consider him as a monarch in our “Capitalist Society”. The lamplighter is a very obedient type of character in the text. He does what he is supposed to do, and that is to light the lamp at sunset. We can assume that the Lamplighter is also another one of the proletariats that have grown to love his job and is very obedient to his boss. The last character the little prince met in the asteroids is, the geographer. The geographer as stated in text is an old gentleman who writes down the information brought to him by explorers. We can assume that the geographer is a Buorgeois simply because he relies on his explorers to do the navigation for him, and if we translate that into our “Capitalist point of view”, The geographer is Buorgeois is basically relying on his proletariat workers to do his work for him. Based on Prof James Petras’ theory earlier, it is evident that in the novella the little Prince there are signs of class struggle within the Characters living in the asteroids, The king, the conceited man, the Business man, and the geographer are all Buorgeoise, so that means that they got the better proposition when it came to class struggle. While The Drunkard at the lamplighter got the low end of class
