Chapter Five
Discussion and Conclusion
Introduction
The aim of this research was to explore the extent to which the use of educational games can to improve students’ understanding of structure and mechanics concept. According to Yolageldili and Arikan (2011), “games have become considerably important for English language learners and teachers, not only because they provide enjoyment and relaxation, but also because they encourage students to use their language in a creative and communicative manner.” Literatures revealed that games motivate students to learner since students will naturally want to play them, as a result there will be an increase in their memory since students often remember activities that are fun. According to Irvin (2007) there is a connection between motivation, engagement and achievement. Irvin (2007) emphasizes that motivating students is important, but getting them engagement is critical, because “the level of engagement over time is the vehicle through which classroom instruction influences student outcomes”. This chapter seeks to outline the summary of the research process, conclusions, discussion and recommendation based on the finding documented in chapter four.

In closing, engaging in a qualitative research is indeed a challenging task. This research has propelled me to be more organized and focused when documenting and analysing data. Nevertheless, it is a worthwhile experience to see how the use of games can improve students’ understanding, performance, interest and attitude towards the content area. I am fully aware that not all students function at the same level and they also vary in styles and abilities, nonetheless using education games is one way in which educators can cater to the different intelligences. It is also important to note that the findings garnered from this research should be shared with school administrators, the Ministry of Education, curriculum developers and other educators who wish to employ this strategy in their practice.
