Nothing happens overnight. Pursuing to become a social worker or actually being one you need to understand that. Whether it is breaking a bad habit or building a new one, change has to take its course. Having a clear beginning, middle, and end is apart of the change process. The change process is a process that social workers go by to help facilitate change. In my opinion, it is very useful. And anyone could do it.
Change has to start somewhere. The beginning of the change process, just like the middle and end, is essential to the change that is needing to be happen. Fact of the matter is that change cannot happen if it is not initiated. In order to help initiate change there are a few steps that have to happen first. The first thing a social worker needs to do is develop clarity and purpose. A lot of times people want to know why you are there and how you can help them. If that is the case, then you need to be able to clearly identify the purpose of you being there. Not only that, but also you need to clearly explain why they need to change. When your client knows the purpose of changing they will be more likely to change. Nobody will just change just because. Do they need to change to be a better parent, to have a better life, or to make sure they stay out of trouble? These are reasons that you would need to …show more content…

A rapport is a relationship. To do this you need to find a common ground. Meaning, you have to find a common area for you and your client. Where can the two of you meet and connect? This could be a favorite sports team, or any other interest. Another common ground could be you both wanting the same thing. For example, a child’s safety.
