What would you do if you were going on a journey to a new world during winter, and you didn’t know how to get food or shelter? In 1921 a group of 132 people set off on a voyage on the Mayflower to find a better life and religious freedom. Before they could start their better life they had to find food and make shelter. The pilgrims stayed on their boat for most of the winter to get away from the snow, sleet, and high winds. When the pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians became friends and made a peace treaty, later Squanto helped them find food and shelter.
When the pilgrims first got to the new land the Wampanoags were very curious of the pilgrim’s large boat. The Wampanoag Indians waited awhile before they spoke to them. They made an agreement with the Wampanoag. This agreement said that the pilgrims and the Wampanoag needed to have mutual peace, friendship, and be their military ally. A military alliance is if the Wampanoag got into a war with someone the pilgrims would help fight and same with the pilgrims.
The first months on the new land were very hard for the pilgrims, about half of the pilgrims who came there passed away during this time. Because they came during the winter, many of the pilgrims died of pneumonia, scurvy, and malnutrition. Also, 11 out of the 31 children that landed in the new world died , but 2 boys were born on the Mayflower. Oceanus Hopkins and Pergine White were the 2 children delivered on the Mayflower. Oceanus Hopkins lived to be 2 years old and Pergine White lived to be 83 years old. Luckily things changed when Squanto arrived. He helped them, so that they wouldn’t die and so that they could get out of the cold winter.
There were lots of other problems the pilgrims encountered besides sick...

In 1920 he discovered his tribe Patuxent .But then found out that his tribe had been killed by smallpox or leptospirosis. Squanto then decided he would live with the Wampanoag another tribe. In 1920 the mayflower landed in Plymouth harbor. The pilgrims land in December during the first winter forty-fiver out of 102 pilgrims died.
Powhatan questions why the colonist is not willing to live in peace and instead take by force. During his viewpoint, Powhatan shows the effects of the colonist getting along and having cooperation with the natives. Which is no violence, sharing of resources, the abundance of supplies, safety, rest, and enjoyment of life? Powhatan compares how life would be if they live in peace than to live with conflict. I am not so simple as not to know that it is better to eat good meat, lie well, and sleep quietly with my women and children; to laugh and be merry with the English, and, being their friend, to have copper, hatchets, and whatever else I want, than to fly from all, to lie cold in the woods, feed on acorns, roots and such trash, and to be so hunted that I cannot rest, eat, or sleep. Chief Powhatan states, “I, therefore, exhort you to peaceable councils.” In addition, he insists that the guns and swords be removed and sent away indicating he seeks a peaceful relationship between the two
Summary: Plimoth Plantation, in conjunction with the Wampanoag Nation got together and re-enacted the three-day meeting between the early colonists and the Wampanoag Nation, which began the tradition of Thanksgiving. This book takes a more realistic look at the Thanksgiving story from the perspective of the pilgrims and the Native American tribe Wampanoag. The stunning photographs taken during the re-enactment are a good visual aid in debunking the misinformation surrounding the holiday. While the book talks about the true origin of Thanksgiving, it also talks about Plimoth Plantation and Wampanoag of today and how they are educating visitors on what life was really like in 1621.
From 1547-1618, Powhatan made a plea for peace to John Smith who was the leader of the English settlers at Jamestown. That plea for peace admonished John Smith of what could happen to him. John Smith arrived with other English settlers in 1607. John Smith was hoping to come in to conquer new land for his nation. Powhatan and the Indians provided them with food, clothing, and other things that the English settlers wanted. The turning point when all the conflict started was when the English settlers came in with swords and guns to invade the Indians, that was where the English settlers went wrong. John Smith and the other English settlers clearly didn't care about the Indians all they really wanted was more land for their nation. From the Indians point of view it was injustice of what the English settlers did to them.
Who would you be if you were a character in Pilgrim’s Progress? Would you help Christian, or would you try and stop Christian from reaching the Celestial City? I believe that I would be known as Brianus. I would help Christian along his long, tiresome journey. For Brianus would help through honesty, would help focus on the goal, and would help Christian focus on the Biblical facts.
In 1620, one hundred and thirty people boarded a ship for a sixty six day journey. Quarters were small on board, and many were affected by seasickness. They believed they were traveling to what would be a better life(The Land of the Brave). The struggles during their voyage to America, were just the beginning of what they would face once they arrived. When settlers came to explore and settle in the Americas, their lives would change drastically as conditions got worse because of disease, famine, and the struggles with the Native Americans.

Dear Samson this is Royce, in good faith, who apologizes for such a sinful delay from your last letter. That letter bestowed a whole hearted warmth upon me, a warmth I cannot say the voyage to the New World has brought. Recalling the influence of religious freedom which had urged me to strive towards this New World has pursued a bittersweet arrival. My brethren and I have prayed for different, blessed lands, yet, Cape Cod stared wildly and callously upon my optimism. Before our arrival, half of our ship’s men were plagued by scurvy and disease. Whether one death on the ship is fortunate or unfortunate (Of Plymouth Plantation, Page 7), a poor man was starved, killed and thrown over the Mayflower’s sides (Of Plymouth Plantation, page 5). Nevertheless, the Mayflower continued miles across the stormy seas (Of Plymouth Plantation, Page 8) I prayed for relief and the holiness of our arrival could not be expressed with prayer. Father would probably laugh at my pessimism. I know at times I seem like a pessimist but, deny me not that the voyage was horrible. While it was mostly terrible, during the voyage to the New World a woman did welcome a lovely child that was gifted the name “Oceanus” (Plymouth Plantation Video). For me, Oceanus symbolized a marvelous
Evangelist lifted his head, and looked afar off, “I see Mercy approaching, and he carries your burden on his back.” The man said, “I hear, Sir. Can thou perhaps explain the weight on my shoulders? For I fear for my safety, even as Faith says `Push on'.” Then Evangelist answered and said, “Your Question shall be spoken but shortly, for I have faith that Mercy shall arrive with an answer.” For a short while, Evangelist exhorted me to have faith, and to prevail against the forces arrayed against my Salvation. We were still conversing, when an elderly Mercy arrived. His face was shining and a beautifully elegant Crown of Life was on his head. The man was so astonished on this vision, that he fell to the ground.
Winter was a very tough time for us. Our crops died and we were very low on food. Our shelters collapsed under the weight of the snow and we didn’t have enough warm clothing. Fourteen colonists died during this time. It was then that we made first contact with the savages. They called themselves the Croatoan and were apparently from a small island located in the bay.
Many different similarities can form an American community. John Bunyan believes the best communities are bonded by Christ. The author of Pilgrim’s Progress also suggests that Christians should rely on their Godly fellowships. Americans dislike dependence on a group. They both place value in the people rather the gathering.
Despite both conquering outer symbolic challenges, there is a large distinction between Christiana’s and Christian’s conflict. Christian has many outer squabbles with the sinners around him. Whereas, Christiana battles her emotions and past. Put simply, part one is man vs. man, and part two displays the war between man and self.
The story of the Pilgrims by Katharine Ross it talks about how the Pilgrims arrived to America and what they did. At the beginning of the story it talks about how the Pilgrims were moving to the new world because their King of England didn’t let them worship their own God. They travel to America in the Mayflower ship and went they arrived to land the Pilgrims started to settle in and they created the Common House. Then, the winter arrive and many of the Pilgrims died and when the spring time came the Indians came to visit them. In the story, it names to Indians with the name Samoset and Squanto which it states that they helped the Pilgrims settle in America by
I chose to write about a painting. It is Embarkation of the Pilgrims by American artist Robert W. Weir in 1843. It is oil on canvas and the size is 12’ by 18’. It is about people who seek for religious freedom. The painting takes place on the desk of a ship, gathering for a prayer. There are men, women, and children pictured in this painting. Everything is laid out asymmetrically. People in the painting look in different directions, has different facial emotions, and body gestures. The focal point of this composition is the armor, musket, and the helmet is the primary objects. They lie in the foreground beside a screw and a man holding the Bible and looking up to the sky surrounded by people. The color of the sky and rainbow is warm and bright, driving the feeling of relaxation and the appearance of natural beauty. There are also men and women pledging to the man that is holding the book.
John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress is an allegorical story about the Christian religion. It allegorizes the journey of a Christian into "the Celestial City, which represents heaven. Although Pilgrim's Progress may seem simple and straightforward, there are many deeper meanings throughout the whole story. Bunyan uses the names of his characters to signify whom the character represents in the story, for example, the character Hopeful represents hopefulness, Help represents people who are willing to help others in need of assistance, Faithful represents people who are faithful to whatever they are associated with, and the main character, Christian, represents all young Christians in the world. His journey to the Celestial City is a journey every Christian must face in their lifetime before allowed into heaven. Within his journey there are many obstacles such as temptations both tangible and intangible for instance, the merchandises sold at Vanity Fair and the shortcuts offered, illustrate temptations real Christians must face and overcome; finding an easy way into heaven, and being thrown off course by material things. The character Christian overcomes many obstacles before reaching his destination, the Celestial City. But during his journey he does not face all these obstacles alone. He meets a variety of people all through his journey to the Celestial City; some of these people mock his traveling to the Celestial City, some decide to follow him, and some help him along his way. Christian meets Faithful who decides to join him on his travels. Faithful is a character that faces many difficulties on his own journey to the Celestial City; his journey has many diff...
