Imagine being a in a race, now imagine that every two yards there is a hurdle. It may seem simple, but if a runner struggles to overcome the hurdles that precede the finish line, they will not be able to win the race. Even if the athlete is an excellent runner, the hurdles will interfere with his or her overall ability to perform. Societal challenges can be compared to the hurdles in the educational journeys of students worldwide.These hurdles impede the individual from achieving their long term educational goals.Education, being the foundation of a society, can drastically be shaped by social factors which can hinder an individual 's overall educational experience. Gender is a key component of the challenges students may face in an educational environment. The identification of an individual by class has existed in human society for a prolonged period of time but in today 's society, it proves to be harmful when it impacts a student 's education. They impact the academic relationships a student requires in order to succeed. These can occur between their peers and their teachers. When class differences become obstructions in forming these relationships, the student may become reluctant towards dropping out or even fail to develop cognitive interpersonal skills setting them behind in the real world (Jensen 2013). As said in the text "keeping close to home: class and education" by Hooks,that "class differences were boundaries no one want[s] to face or talk about" and that "it is easier to downplay them and act as though [everyone was] from privileged backgrounds" (Hooks 102). This example demonstrates the mindset a student from a lower class develops after attending a higher class
