Cetaceanology Religion I decided to create my very own religion known as Cetaceanology. The name is significant to my religion because the root word, “cetacean,” actually refers to a diverse range of fully aquatic marine mammals; specifically centering around the dolphin and whale species. My religion values intelligence as our main objective. It is our mission to reach the intelligence as a human race to that of the smartest animal on the planet, known as the dolphin, who we also view as our ancient ancestors. As humans, we only have access to 10% of our brain, while dolphins have access to 20% (“Dolphin Intelligence”), therefore giving them more access to knowledge than us. Our totem, or symbol, is of course the beloved dolphin. We view them as our ancient relatives who have yet to pass their knowledge down upon us. In order to show our appreciation, we perform a ritual, or specific dance when the high tide rolls in because that is when the dolphins swim closest to shore and we can become more spiritually connected to them. We also very highly believe in taboo. In our religion, as a member, it is prohibited to enter the country to Taiji. It is the infamous ground of the Taiji annual dolphin slaughter, where 20,000 of our relatives are murdered every year (“Dolphin Slaughter”). The hunters of Taiji are responsible for interfering with our knowledge. It is our mission to one day reach a unison together in order to obtain the knowledge that will help get our species to the level of
