Working under the Division of Student Affairs, the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at the University of Arkansas has a mission to empower students working to change the world through service. By cultivating students’ strengths, facilitating their learning in identifying societal needs, and empowering them to create solutions for those in need, CCE strives to accomplish its vision. Established in 2011, CCE functions as an agent bridging the gap between campus and the community. CCE promotes relationship-focused, student-driven, and service-minded engagement to help students create a better community through service. Those organizations have channeled me to directly engaged with the community. Though their volunteering activities, I am also able to develop myself learning about issues in the communities, organizational skill, communication skill, and leadership. Project Town Clean-Up is one of Beaver Watershed Alliance’s volunteering activities where I am participating. In this project, we have several target locations to be clean-up. Both students and communities are involved working hand in hand to clean up certain target location. This activity is really mind inspiring. As I began to be more exposed to various volunteering activities here than back home and I intend to reproduce similar volunteering activities when I return home. Trash, especially, has been a national problem in my country. Indeed, having similar project will help keeping the environment clean. However, educating people not to litter is also important. Having a personal awareness about trash and understanding the need to have our environment trash free is far more essential. It will be easier for us to keep our earth clean when each individual knows exactly why it is important to keep it

Caring for the elderly is an activity that requires patience, willingness, due diligence and effective co-ordination of resources in order to optimally benefit the recipients. Community services and programs is one such avenue that caters for the elderly by providing for their mental, physical, social and emotional well-being, and by extension promotes a greater quality of life. Community services help meet the needs of the elderly and attract older people who face barriers to active living. One strong advocate of community based services and a program for the elderly is the American Association of Retired People (AARP) who relentlessly seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle for people 50 years and over.
People become involved in community service for different reasons and it is up to the individual to realize if it is worthwhile and why they are helping others. Community service brings a nation together. Every country wants its community to be disciplined and work for change. Community service is the best way to inculcate responsibility into individuals. This is where I come in, as a volunteer, as an activist for a change and assistance. I have been inducted and a member of three unique clubs with a core purpose of community service and assistance to others. I have been apart of CSF, California Scholarship Federation, for three years and counting. Each system it is required for obtain fifteen hours of community service, whether be with an organization or school based activity. California Scholarship Federation is an exclusive community of college bound scholars who share resources, provide peer tutoring, and pursue success through community service and academic achievement. I became inducted into NHS, National Honor Society, my sophomore year. Since then I have been an active member participating in every community service opportunity our club participates in. In addition to the club's community service, we as members are required to obtain a certain amount of community service outside the club in order for our membership to not be revoked. NHS
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
How did a departmental faculty generated 12,000 hours of student community service in one semester? The following is a qualitative analysis of conversations with faculty members in a department that recently instituted a service learning requirement for all student majors. The campus is a large urban comprehensive university with a multi-ethnic student body. Approximately fifteen faculty members were interviewed for this study. While most of those interviewed included service learning components in their courses, interviews with faculty members who resisted or refused to incorporate service learning were conducted as well in order to understand varying faculty attitudes towards service learning.
Although United States is a model nation to many countries, but we aren’t the cleanest nation or eco-friendly relative to Japan and many other European nations. However, If everyone cares about their community’s cleanliness, whole country can be changed with a broom. Therefore, I choose to work with Northridge West weekly clean up to making impact on my neighborhood. Northridge West community is carrying out a progressive program called “Operation Clean Sweep”, which believes clean streets are the first part of city beautification. Community service is something that I have always engaged. In college, I worked with chemically dependent children as both a caretaker and a mentor. After I graduated, I taught at-risk children in a community youth outreach program. Kim, in the United States, grades are not the only factor in evaluating school applicants and job candidates. From Rhodes Scholar selections to college applications, excellence in other areas such as leadership, volunteer activities, sports and arts is equally important (p82-90). In American schools, students are encouraged to do volunteer work. So much so that many schools have guidelines for how much time students are expected to spend serving in the community. Children learn the value of giving from an early age. Volunteer activities is one way Americans feel a part of things and share the goal of serving and contributing to build their communities. From neighborhood watch programs to environmental issues, Americans do not wait for the government to initiate action: they take action to bring about the changes they desire. Therefore, Americans view volunteer work as a way to teach children and young adults values such as cooperation and teamwork, dedication and work ethics, equality and social justice, leadership, generosity and compassion for
Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people’s minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people.
Do you want the best safety in your school? School safety is not that safe in a lot of schools. There are schools that are getting in trouble because of bad school safety. Our project will help many kids. Project citizen helps the school and the community.
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
As it’s becoming mandatory all around the Us, many kids will just be doing it to graduate high school. Even without the requirement of doing community service, many students will still go and volunteer. Yet, once they reach high school and they’re forced to do it, they might actually feel trapped. Many students and adults alike might feel pressure to do well when they are required to do something, whether it’s for school or for work. With the looming thought of it being required, students might actually not be enjoying their volunteering hours like they used to.
Introducing myself, I am Sharanya Varatharajoo, a third-year Petroleum Geoscience student in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). In third year second semester, all students must register the subject of HDB1012 Community Engagement Project. It also known as MPU4 which stands for Mata Pelajaran Umum in Malay Language. The Ministry of Education Malaysia has authoritatively reported the offering of General Studies or Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU) to supplant the Malaysian National Subjects (MNS) for all private advanced education establishments in Malaysia. The objective of General Studies is to provide a holistic education across the disciplines for both Malaysian and International undergraduate students and opportunities to engage in diverse life-long learning skills while acquiring valuable knowledge. As for our community engagement project, the main objective is to enhance our social and interpersonal skills throughout the course. In relations towards our project, Ninjas for Nature, had a clear-cut outcome which is to provide a genuine and practical showcase of awareness towards the environment. Our sector of specific focus falls within the means of 3 main areas which is in terms of mangrove trees, sea turtles and sharks.
Community engagement is the active participation of local residents and community groups in the decisions that affect their lives (Herefordshire Council, 2013). Therefore, community engagement should be about engaging in open communication to ensure the council understands the needs of the local community.
Getting the youth involved is not the easiest thing to do. It is helping them realize the importance of becoming involved with the community. Also, parents and the community needs be more involved with our youth. It is about taking time for our youth and helping them grow up in a positive environment. A barrier for this can be tough because of how we reach out to our youth. They need motivation and they need a leader to reach out to them. It can be hard getting our community together, but once we are together we can easily guide our youth toward the right path. I believe a community is about developing relationships and working with one another to complete tasks and to help encourage everyone. I want to have a crime free environment
