Working under the Division of Student Affairs, the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at the University of Arkansas has a mission to empower students working to change the world through service. By cultivating students’ strengths, facilitating their learning in identifying societal needs, and empowering them to create solutions for those in need, CCE strives to accomplish its vision. Established in 2011, CCE functions as an agent bridging the gap between campus and the community. CCE promotes relationship-focused, student-driven, and service-minded engagement to help students create a better community through service. Those organizations have channeled me to directly engaged with the community. Though their volunteering activities, I am also able to develop myself learning about issues in the communities, organizational skill, communication skill, and leadership. Project Town Clean-Up is one of Beaver Watershed Alliance’s volunteering activities where I am participating. In this project, we have several target locations to be clean-up. Both students and communities are involved working hand in hand to clean up certain target location. This activity is really mind inspiring. As I began to be more exposed to various volunteering activities here than back home and I intend to reproduce similar volunteering activities when I return home. Trash, especially, has been a national problem in my country. Indeed, having similar project will help keeping the environment clean. However, educating people not to litter is also important. Having a personal awareness about trash and understanding the need to have our environment trash free is far more essential. It will be easier for us to keep our earth clean when each individual knows exactly why it is important to keep it
