“How can we live in a free society and develop our own opinions if our right to choose reading materials for ourselves and our families is taken away?” Schools are banning books in schools because they are “too offensive for children.” But if children want to be exposed to this new information, why not do it through the safety of books, instead of the dangerous and sometimes cruelness of their friends? Censorship should be banned in schools because it restricts knowledge about cultural and foreign relations. deprives children of new and significant information, as well as the fact that banning books tends to spiral out of control, resulting in warring parents and more books banned.
Censorship isolates children from cultural and foreign relations. For example, take into consideration if your child was to grow up not knowing about African American struggles. They would not be able to comprehend the sacrifices for equality these people have made. They would not be able to recognize the battles and hardships these people have to go through, and the fact that they still have to go through issues like these every day. If your child had to have communications with international citizens, how would they be able to relate to diversified people? They would not know the customs of the foreign country, and mess it up. This would not be good, especially if it would affect your child's job. Their “close minded worldview is one that will not be tolerated for long.” If a child was to grow up only aware of one religion, how would they have a “frame of reference” in recognizing other’s diverse and varied beliefs? ...s with foreign countries becomes more difficult, the knowledge many perceive becomes limited, and the need to satisfy parents becomes more and more urgent. Remember, a good meal can last a day or two, but a good book can last a lifetime.
