Prompt:28 There are nearly 1.6 million accidents each year due to cell phone use while driving according to the National Safety Council. Distracted driving is the number one leading cause of car crashes. Teens are even more susceptible to using a phone while driving than adults. However adults do it too. Use of a hand-held cell phone should be illegal because it could cause an accident, harm innocent people, and cause the driver to break other laws.
Using a cell phone while driving could possibly cause an accident. For example running a red light and hitting a car. Not only would it be harmful to others, but it would also hurt his loved ones. Just imagine how his family would feel if he were dead or hurt because of someone's idiotic decision.That would be something they would have to deal with on their conscience for the rest of their life. No one else can make the decision to use a phone while driving except the person driving.
The last reason it should be illegal is because it could cause the driver to break other laws. Using a hand-held cell phone while driving is already breaking a law as it is. However, it could potentially lead to breaking many other laws. Such as running a red light, running a stop sign, and speeding. Breaking these laws could result in the other two reasons mentioned previously.
Many people believe that using a phone while driving should not be illegal. They say that the call/text might be an emergency. However, when giving that privilege to drivers some will go above and beyond with it. There is an old saying “I gave you and inch and you took a mile” and that is exactly what they would do. This law was put in effect to keep the roads safe for everybody so without this law our roads would be just one accident after
