In recent years, there has been an alarm over the rising sedentary lifestyle we live. This lifestyle has led to an increase in hypokinetic disease which are diseases caused by lack of physical activity. These diseases such as obesity and diabetes (type 2) are mostly preventable but still affect a lot of our population. The causes of these diseases continue to increase due to the inactive lifestyle we choose to live. The amounts of fattening and sugary food we consume have also increased the prevalence of these conditions. Furthermore, there are personal factors that can increase the chance of them occurring. The conditions associated with hypokinetic disease, the causes, and my personal risk to these conditions will be explored.

Main Body
One of the biggest conditions that have plagued not only my family but most of American is type 2 diabetes. Unlike type 1, this type of diabetes isn’t hereditary and can develop in anyone. WebMD states, “either their pancreas does not make enough insulin or the body cannot use the insulin well enough. This is called insulin resistance” to describe what occurs in individuals with this type of disease (WebMD). Insulin—which is used in our bodies to regulate and process carbohydrates, fats, and sugars—is either lacking in their bodies or is not being used properly this causes a buildup of glucose in their bodies. According to WebMD this can damage to the body as the sugar levels can damage a person’s heart, kidneys, and other organs or even blocking arteries leading to a heart attack (WebMD). Another thing that may occur is a diabetic coma in which the individual becomes too dehydrated because of the sugar and enters a coma. Personally, in my family many have Type 2 diabetes like my father...

To sum it all up, all these conditions have been the result of a sedentary lifestyle which is the most important factor that determines your overall health. These conditions that have plagued my family could have been prevented by living an active lifestyle and eating better. This goes for the rest of the United States, considering that more than one-third of adults are obese. (Win) Not only that, but 1 in 5 will die from obesity related conditions. This cost us over $190 billion every year to help treat these conditions. (Win) Furthermore, the rise of fast food has attributed to these numbers alongside being inactive. Personally, I believe educating on health and fitness is the best way to lower these numbers. Once someone steps down this road it is difficult to get back so it is important to help prevent it before it begins.
