Having a busy work schedule or going to school full time and having lots of homework causes huge amounts of stress on many people. People don’t know how to handle it. It consumes their life and that’s all they worry about. Thousands of people in the United States get a divorce every year. People try lots of different things to help ease their workload or problems. For example, some may take up smoking to help with their stress, which can lead to bad health in the long run. Also, when adults with children get a divorce, it usually takes a bigger toll on the child than the parents. Since the children are usually young when it happens, they don’t know how to handle the pain, so they can turn to suicide as the answer. Additionally, relationship suicides are a big part of today’s world. Many people try to fix whatever is broken. When it doesn’t work out, they stress about it and they don’t think they can go on without that certain person so suicide becomes a solution to the

Suicide is arguably one of the most major controversies. Suicide is the act of taking one’s own life as a result of a psychiatric disorder that sometimes is brought on with certain life threatening illnesses, stress, genetics, or other influences like physical or emotional abuse. There are many conditions that are known for having suicidal thoughts and ideation as a side effect; major depression, manic depression, or bipolar disorder, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and many more. Most suicidal individuals want to avoid emotional or physical pain by killing themselves to escape the pain they can’t bear and solve their insoluble problem. Sometimes, suicide is also done out of anger. Suicide may not be the answer to their problems, but sometimes suicide is the only way to escape.
Suicide is the eleventh most common cause of death in the United States. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a person takes their own life once every fourteen minutes in the United States (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention [AFSP], 2011). Still, with suicide rates so high, suicide is a taboo topic in our society. Though suicide is intended to end one person’s pain, it causes an immeasurable amount of pain and suffering to loved ones close to the deceased.
There are multiple reasons why a person becomes depressed and suicidal. Examples include job loss, death of loved one, and/or drug abuse. According to the American Association of Suicidology approximately 18.8 million or 9.5% American adults suffer with some form of “depressive illness” (AAS, 23 June 2009). Out of the 18.8 million adults suffering with depression 20% of those adults who are left untreated will try to commit suicide (AAS, June 23, 2009). Men are more likely to commit suicide; where as women are more likely to become depressed. “About 7 out of every hundred men and 1 out of every hundred women who have been diagnosed with depression in their lifetime will go on to complete suicide” (AAS, June 23, 2009).

Statistically speaking the most common way to kill oneself is by hanging oneself or by suffocation. Also is by cutting oneself with any kind of sharp object or drinking one selves or by taking pills to kill one selves. There are many ways to commit suicide, but it is also very sad that people do this to one selves to get out of problems that are temporary. The leading cause of suicide is from bullying, physically and/or mentally abuse. Abuse is a terrible thing to do to anyone or anything. When one abuses, they are not only physically harming that other person, they are scarring them for life. Causing the other person to build walls up around them shutting themselves off from others. This causes them to hold in all their feelings, eventually that leads to very suicidal thoughts. This is exactly why we should not post suicide everywhere, it puts an image in kid’s heads saying that suicides helps you escape your feelings and helping end all the pain that you’re going through. The data that is measured is measured by the numerator representing the number of deaths due to suicide and the denominator representing the number of people per
Before elaborating on what causes suicide it should be understood what we mean by cause. The Oxford English Dictionary defines cause as “a person or thing that gives rise to an action, phenomenon or condition.” This essay will in part examine the methods employed by suicidal patients though this is secondary to whatever caused them to make this decision. The essay will consider the epidemiology of suicide (also regarding suicide clustering) followed by the potential genetic risk factors. This will be followed by the psychological factors such as depressive disorders, and finally the environmental risk factors such as low socioeconomic status and substance abuse.
Committing suicide probably sounds like a foreign idea to most people, but to the people who think about it, they deal with it every day. More importantly, the question is what leads people to kill themselves? In general, most people do not want to actually kill themselves, even though many people joke about it on a daily basis. Being a human, we all have a certain amount of will to live. Depression is the major cause for suicidal thoughts and ideas. After a long enough period of time, people become worn down and become less and less happy.
Many live due to the fear of death, many die due to the fear of living. Suicide is the act of ending one’s own life as a result of emotional and spiritual problems. Suicide, to some, is seen as a permanent escape. The Church itself argues against suicide. Life is borrowed and is not for one to just give away, God is the only one who can judge life. Suicide should not be committed because it infringes our relationship with others and ultimately God. Suicide is a selfish act all on its own.
