In today’s society, divorce has become a normal thing in our lives. Married couples today are getting a divorce due to many different reasons. This essay will examine the cause and effect of divorce on children and couples for the last 25 years in America. Few of the causes might be getting married or the wrong reasons, lack of equality, abuse, spouses having an affair, loss of romantic feeling, conflicts, and other problems that will be discussed momentarily. The divorce would affect the children mentally, emotionally, and have a bad effect on their health. They struggle with self-esteem, weaken the bond or relationship between a child and his parents, and use of drugs and or weapons. One of the biggest effects of divorce on both the children and couple would be financial problems.
Historically, divorces were only granted in very special circumstances. In early American history, couples found it very difficult to be granted a divorce. There were existed strict rules and regulations in place that often forbid spouses from filing for divorce. (http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com). When a marriage breaks up, divorce law provides legal solutions for issues that the Husband and Wife are unable to resolve through mutual cooperation. . The most important question in a divorce case was whether the court should grant a divorce. “When a divorce was granted, the resolution of continuing obligations was simple: The wife was awarded custody of any children, and the husband was required to support the wife and children.” (http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com). (http://www.aamft.org) About 4% of married men and 2% of married women report anonymously to researchers that they were unfaithful to their spouses in 2011.
