The Depth of Procrastination
The dictionary definition of procrastination is the act or habit of procrastinating or putting off or delaying, especially something requiring immediate attention. The reality is much more complex. Procrastination, to me, is when a student crumbles due to preposterous amounts of pressure and expectations put on a student in order to shape their success. The amount of pressure put on students harms rather than helps them. So far in my high school career, I have witnessed the competitive nature that my peers embody. This nature radiates and glares. For many students, The notion of endeavoring to succeed but instead faltering causes anxiety, so they procrastinate and evade. In this case, when they are not satisfied with their grades due to evading, they can justify that their grades didn’t reflect their legitimate competences. Other students fear success, unlike those who are afraid of failure. Procrastination acts as a buffer from the consequences of success for many students. These consequences are viewed as rewards by others. However, raised expectations and increased obligations are viewed as unfavorable to these students. Similar to those who are afraid to falter, select students procrastinate in order to bypass confrontation with their authentic extremities. In students like myself, perfectionism induces evasion. Nothing is accomplished because they want everything to be perfect. When they encounter challenges they are afflicted with insurmountable measures. For instance, in Art 2 I was assigned a conceptual-based art project. I based the project on how humans impact the environment. I wanted everything to be perfect even though I was challenged with a new medium. I spent too much time on small details and trying to implement my exact vision that I completed the bulk of the project the night before the due
