Homelessness has been a thorny issue in many countries. In the United States alone, the number of homeless people as at January twenty fifteen stood at more than half a million people. This problem affects people from all walks of life among them, children. The numbers of homeless people have been seen to be steadily decreasing in the US but have been continuously increasing in some countries such as India. Most of these homeless people have been seen to be seeking shelter solutions in various areas such as under bridges, abandoned houses and unsheltered locations such as cars, streets and in public recreational parks. Homelessness has been caused by various factors among them poverty and the lack of public support by the affected governments.

The occurrence of this has adverse effects on the affected parties both psychologically and physically. Even though these effects vary from one affected individual to another, some effects are common to all people. Homelessness causes psychological harm to the affected party for example children that are brought up in a homeless family are affected psychologically by the anxiety and the profound acts of violence that commonly occur in homeless families. Research shows that the psychological effects are affecting a child begin even before the child has been born because their parents are homeless and struggle through life trying to provide themselves with some basic needs (Harshaw, Renee & Lobby). Additionally, the children are affected even before birth from drug abuse instances by their mothers during pregnancy.
