A New Life
Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio is a charity to serve refugees who seek resettlement to flee intolerable conditions in their homeland. These new immigrants join the long line of other refugees and immigrants who came to Cincinnati looking for a fresh start and a better life as New Americans. The Refugee Resettlement Services needs your donations to help the refugees get welcomed, employment, and housing to achieve the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency for their new life in America.

The refugees can be settled in a camp for ten years or more with a lack of food, clean water, and sanitation. The United Stations luckily provided the camps with security, education, and a health exam. To determine their eligibility they have to go through an interview at a Migration Processing Center. If eligible they are assigned to a voluntary agency such as U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that will find them a resettlement agency. “In Cincinnati, Catholic Charities is the only resettlement agency. (The Refugees Journey to Cincinnati)” When their processing is complete they will receive a final exam and a booked flight that Catholic Charities would be notified of. Members of this charity will prepare them a welcoming meal, an apartment or home with furniture and a week's worth of food. Once they arrive in Cincinnati they will be greeted with a caseworker and interpreter and will be taken to their new home. “Each Refugee receives a stipend of 1,000 dollars for their first three months in their new home. (Welsh)” In addition they receive temporary social services while they are searching for employment.
