J.D Salinger was born January 1,1919,in New York,New York.Salinger was very popular in the post- WWll era despite having produced little work.He is best known for his novel “The Catcher in the Rye”.This novel was very different for literature in post-WWll America.It soon made Salinger's name known and brought him to fame, making Salinger one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century.(Bio)

Salinger created Holden Caulfiled in,”The catcher in the Rye,” as am autobiographical character.The Novel follows Holden during the course of a day as he goes from his school in pennslyvannia to new York.Throughout the novel the reader begins to learn more about who holden is by the events that occur on Holdens adventure.When comparing Salinger's life to the experiances holden goes through,its easy to tell this novel is more autobiographical.certain experiances salinger went through he placed in the novel,and even putting his own characteristics into the protagonist Holden,The pieces of Salingers's life incorporated in “The Catcher in the Rye”,account for the underlying ideas present to readers.

Salinger was born in manhatten,New York to sol and miram Salinger.His parents,a jewish man and an irish catholic woman,owned a meat importing business.Growing up,Salnger was not the most academic student despite his intelect.After flunking out of the McBurney School near his new york home.His parents soon shipped him off to the Valley Forge military academy from 1934 to1936.(Bio)Salinger then moved and began to attend Ursinus College in Collegville,Pennsyvania.Salinger continued to keep up his grades at Ursinus.He soon dropped out of Ursinus,he attended other schools but continued to meet failure time and time again until he end...

...houghts about the situation are alike.Holden hates social enviorments ,and always finds an excuse to not like a person.Salinger is the same.He never enjoyed being social of anyone knowing what was going on in his life.The most defining factor that salinger and holden are one in the same is that after they told their story they regreted it.At the end of “the Catcher in the Rye,”Holdem says this:”If you want to know the truth,i dont know what I think about it.I'm sorry I told so many people about it...Dont ever tell anybody anything.”( Salinger,276-277)

Salinger never published anything else after “The Catcher in the Rye”.he became more reclusive but still continued to write.”The Catcher in the Rye”was salingers life work.It was an autobiography in a sense.He used holden as a gateway to express his frustrations and his feelings with his life and the world around him.
