Gambling has been around since 2300 B.C. It has its positive and negative effects; it also has somewhat of a positive impact on the economy. It stimulates most communities by creating jobs and generates tax revenue for state and local governments. The gambling industry in “2002 and the commercial casino industry provided 350,000 jobs in the United States” (americangaming.org). Even though gambling can bring a lot of economic growth to the economy there is still an argument going on today whether it is a great choice to legalize it everywhere.
Data Analysis: Figure 1 in appendix 4 shows that the Howick Falls area is the main reason why people visit Howick because it attracts 52% of the tourists. This information shows us the Howick Falls area is an economically viable destination because it attracts the most tourists and these tourists are the ones that then bring in income to the Local Businesses and create employment for the people which then reduces the poverty level of the small town. We see that the Umngeni area which includes the Howick Falls, attracts a lot of tourists because the secondary research article obtained from the Umngeni local government in appendix 2 states that the Umngeni area is a leading and fast growing economic development in South Africa. This means that the Howick Falls has created financial or economically viable opportunities for the Locals due to its ability to attract a lot of tourists. This statement is proven by the visitor`s survey conducted in 2014 by the friends of the Falls in appendix 4 table 1.3 because it shows us that lot of people generally visit the Howick Falls area.
A report released by the American Gaming Association stated that “based on direct, indirect, and induced impacts, the commercial casino industry supported approximately $125 billion in spending and nearly 820,000 jobs in the U.S economy in 2010” (Bazelon, et al., 2012) On a larger scale, the global casinos and gaming sector grew by 9.2 percent in 2012 to reach a total value of $456 billion (“Global casinos”, 2013). The modern casino is like an indoor amusement park for adults; the thrill of gambling, entertainment, and staying in a luxurious hotel is an experience desired by many tourists and it brings in billions of dollars in profit every year. A survey conducted in 2009, found that about 65 percent of Americans thought of the casino industry as being a vital and important factor to the overall U.S travel industry (“U.S commercial casino industry”, 2010). As conditions in the marketplace have changed, the gaming and gambling industry has increased its reliance on the lodging industry to bring in more revenue by attracting more gamblers to casinos (Walker, 2013). One major advantage of tourism is the fact that developing travel industry can stimulate the popular tourist areas' consumption ability and economy. “According to the OVTA, there are 12 million visitors who travel to Ottawa and consume 128million dollars each year. Moreover, the development of tourism leads to generating 45 million dollars income for the local government per year” (Chase, 2011). In addition, “China National Tourism Administration showed that there is a 15 percent increase of the price level of products which selling in the Middle East and Europe during the New Year holidays, compared to their daily price. However, these increases give some impacts on economy and it is reported that in 2010, 52 million Chinese people travelled abroad” (Lixia, 2011).

As Windsor offers educational aspects, such as history, as well as shopping and other activities, it manages to attract people of all ages. This results in Windsor profiting much more money. Tourists may decide to observe a specific district, resulting in the region earning a mass amount of money.
There is also the tourist multiplier effect, in which will increase the number of tourists due to other factors, and this can be seen as the tourist industry will help develop other industries in Thailand as well, which will all benefit tourists. Touristic industries has also offered many new jobs surround the industry and this has lifted out many people from unemployment. The money brought in from tourists has also greatly developed the infrastructure and sewage system in Thailand. Scuba diving and other water sports are attractive towards both tourists and citizens, either to do the activities or work to maintain it. Furthermore, Thailand has also become one of the best foreign exchange currencies in the world since 1982.
The government should not engage themselves in this type of situation. The gambling industry has supported many different types of organizations and involves themselves financially in numerous associations. To support the Goverment the Republican and Democratic Party’s receive hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from the gaming industry. According to the Center for Responsive Politics the total number of money contributed from the gambling industry to politics in the last presidential election was 6.7 million dollars (Metrobeat). Much of the gambling industry’s rapid expansion in recent years can be attributed to its effective of allowing local businesses and political leaders to be tantalized by promises of increased tourism and economic development (Metrobeat).
This indicates that the economy of the Las Vegas metropolitan area is showing signs of recovery, albeit slow recovery. The primary force that drives the economy in Las Vegas is gaming tourism; however, there has been an effort to diversity the local economy. This investment to attract other industries will prove to be invaluable to stabilizing home prices, bring the area to full employment, and by extension, allow Summerlin to thrive.
