The Blueprints of Personality Since the early days, the psychologist is debating the question of nature or nurture playing a bigger role in shaping a personality as a person’s core trait is relatively stable throughout our lives. Psychologists are interested in finding out if the factor of nature or nurture is shaping up a person’s personality, which forms up different traits or even culture. Gene studies were recently created a hype when questions were raised if the role of the genes determine the personality traits and if our roles have already predetermined our personality for a lifetime. It is through environment which children could mature and learn to adapt to the social context (Kirkpatrick, Legrand, Iacono & McGue, 2011). Genes are not the only factor in shaping a personality. To further understand a personality growth, longitudinal research has been done on monozygotic twins, dizygotic twins and adopted children in different environmental settings. The different environment has an impact on triggering certain characteristics. It involves higher levels of cognition such as motivation, speech pattern and social behavior which governs a person's personality. Should anything happened to the frontal lobe, there will be signs of change and a person's personality will undergo a dramatic change. He may have some aggressive traits showing up which his twin or his parents do not show. This alone can show that genes are not the only major factor which shapes a personality. Rather, the environmental intervention which affects the cognition of the individual which allows the person to change his behavior completely. This is called Frontal Lobe Disorder.
