Introduction
The purpose of this case study was to evaluate and dissect the language and speech of a three year old child. By evaluating the child’s phonological, semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic development I was able to understand the child’s language development. This case study showed me the importance of understanding preschool aged children by listening to their pronunciation and use of words, thus giving me a better understanding of language development.

One major difference was that is was decorated as his sister’s birthday celebration was the previous day. His grandmother was in the kitchen a few feet away just checking to see how we were doing. Alex was watching a similar show as last time through youtube. Throughout various points, Alex went through channels and told me about the cartoons he liked. Also, there was a toy oven/stove I saw that Alex would later use while we were talking and he wanted to show me how to use it. He is the youngest of two, his sister is seven years old. Alex lives in a household where both his parents speak primarily English, although they speak Spanish as well due to their Peruvian background. Alex’s parents told me that he loves to pretend, usually likes to think he is a superhero or a power ranger. He also likes to learn about random things that catch his attention. His dad mentioned that Alex doesn’t have interest in too many books, but can talk about his favorite movies and television shows for hours. His mother also added that he loves talking about his favorite moments from a movie/tv show and will keep repeating them. Alex will not be enrolled in school for about another year. Every morning he is dropped off at his grandmother’s house at 8:30am, except for weekends when his parents don’t work. Around 6pm, his parents come pick him up and spends the remainder of his evening with his parents and sister. His grandmother mentioned that he doesn’t read much, however he enjoys being read to. Some of his favorite books were picture books with animals in them or those based off the Arthur tv series. In his free time, Alex loves to draw with crayons or chalk, play games like tag, pretend play or hide-and-seek with his sister, build with blocks, and watch
