This court case will set a precedence for future file storage websites and is being watch with interest by technical communities. It has stirred an enormous debate around the world about the ethics and moral rights of ownership.

ARGUMENTS THAT INDICATE COPYRIGHT HAS BEEN BREACHED
Kim Dotcom denied the charges filed against him, his attorney who has defended several copyright infringement cases states that there is no criminal liability for secondary copyright infringement under US law, quoting a similar case involving YouTube as an example of similar accusations which were dealt with as a civil case.
This is an interesting standpoint as Dotcom is clearly in agreement that copyright laws have in fact been broken – but just not by HIS company/website.
His argument leads to discussion of the liability of end users. And is perhaps the area that we all need to be educated about.
