1. An Introduction to the Hotel Industry

• The hotel industry is an important component of the tourism industry. The fortunes of the hospitality industry have always been linked to the prospects of the tourism industry. Tourism is the foremost demand driver of the industry. Along with the tourism industry, the Indian hospitality industry has also emerged as one of the key industries driving the growth of the services sector and, thereby, the Indian economy.

• The hotel industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India. The total market size of Indian tourism and hospitality sector stood at US$ 117.7 billion and is expected to touch US$ 418.9 billion by 2022. At least 5 years of the hotel data should be collected in a data warehouse or a data mart. All the old data should be entered into the system and based on ETL (Entry- Transform – Load) method should be loaded into the Data warehouse. If the hotel is not able to provide the historical data then the general data can collected by surveying potential customers, employees and hotel management staff.
