We are writing to voice our support for the solutions proposed by the Capitol View Park Civic Association in regards to the rising problem of traffic in Lyttonsville. Traffic and speed along Capitol View Avenue continues to be a growing concern among residents of Lyttonsville. This in conjunction with the Purple Line construction which will close the Lyttonsville Bridge and detour traffic directly through Capitol View Park, has brought a need for a remedy.
We believe the increased level of traffic due to the Purple Line construction will intensify an already problematic situation. We ask for a traffic management plan for Capitol View Park to accommodate the increased traffic levels, up to 10,000 cars per day which will need averting as a result
Community elected home owners association officials are constantly involved in complex decisions regarding the state, safety, and welfare of the property of our small community and solving community problems. Effective ways to solve problems faced by Deer Crossing Homeowners’ is to conduct a needs assessment of the community in an effort to provide feedback for the community elected officials.
The Crossroads development has dominated the local conversation in Mahwah for the past 9 months. Over the past few years, the Crossroads Developers had put forth various proposals for development of the site, only to have them rejected by the Mahwah Township Council. This past March, the Developer once again came to the Council in order to ask that their property be rezoned from office use to mixed-use/retail to allow for the construction of a complex of retail stores, restaurants, a movie theater, hotel and office space. Over 400 residents attended the March 31 meeting to express their opposition to the development. This unprecedented turnout by Mahwah residents, unlike any the Council had seen before, should have been enough for the Council to realize that a decision to rezone the property may not be in the best interests of Mahwah residents. Instead, the Council voted 4-2 to allow for the property to be rezoned.
Riverbank, a large city, has a district with a huge problem. Grant’s Valley, although booming with business, is a quaint and historic part of Riverbank that the residents want to keep that way. The business aspect of Grant’s Valley has an ever growing need for more space for tourists to park and there is just too much traffic for the area to withstand. Riverbank’s historically quaint Grant’s Valley would benefit from the destruction of the unused junior-high on 35th and Princeton and the new construction of a one hundred space parking lot and a new park. This would attract more people and lessen the unattractive curb appeal of the parking lot in the residential area of Grant’s Valley that the residents want
This political action memo explains that I want the speed limit lowered in my neighborhood. Then it provides five political actions I can take to get the speed limit lowered on my residential street. First, I will explain why the speed limit should be reduced and how it will benefit my neighborhood's safety concerns. Then I will explain both the positives and negatives of the five political actions I could take: making a phone call to my city council member, completing a Traffic Service Request form, sending an e-mail to my state legislature, attending a city council meeting, or creating a petition. At times, I noticed that the mayor would have probably been more attentive hearing from irate citizens than listen to Armenta trying to get clarifications to C-5. Unexciting as the council meeting agenda items might have been, it was still fascinating to see local government at work in such an orderly, proper fashion. We may disagree on particular ordinances or agenda items, but we will do so in an appropriate way that does not disrupt the city at large, and even though the topics of discussion were mostly mundane, students should still at one point or another witness their local governments at work. Doing so leads to a greater understanding for how day-to-day city improvements take affect and how important it can be to voice your opinion and be a leader within your community.

Politics or politicking is a game that is more ostensible and reserved for the political arena; however, metaphorically, much of the political discourse can also be found within organizations. Politics in organizations, then, is design for groups to reconcile differences between interests, conflicts, and power (Morgan, 2006). The case study to be analyze (Cutting Back at City Hall) is one that illustrates all three aspects of interests, conflicts, and power as the City of Smithville, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the International Association of Firefighters (IAF), and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) deliberate the city’s proposed budget.

However, unlike the first facility, it offers detention services to both males and females. Mount View focuses on a behavior management program for their clients. Through positive reinforcement, goal setting, focusing on the youths’ strengths, and evidence-based programs they work to manage the behavior of their clients. On June 26, 2015, a Massachusetts Superior Court judge issued an injunction against the City of Boston, halting the City’s replacement and upgrade of existing handicapped accessible ramps in the Boston historic district of Beacon Hill. The Beacon Hill Civic Association, a group dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of Beacon Hill, had filed suit and sought an injunction against the City arguing for the preservation of the existing ramps to maintain the historic nature of Beacon Hill. This case exemplifies the tension seen all over the world of the issue of disability accessibility of historic cultural property in competition with the preservation of this property. within inner city communities. This paper focuses on the different activities offered to single parent families living inner city communities and the benefits and constraints that come along with these provided services.
As young people’s civic and political participation continues to decline, a number of organizations are working to reverse the decline by increasing opportunities for youth to participate. Communities around the country are taking steps to engage young people through a variety of methods that allow youth to actually participate in policy development and take action on local issues. The effectiveness of such community programs on long-term civic engagement is not well documented, however. This paper presents preliminary research about the effectiveness of one community participation program, the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s Youth Advisory Council. Quantitative and anecdotal evidence, while not conclusive, suggest this community problem solving approach may encourage its participants to engage in other civic and political activities. The paper also discusses the benefits that organizations and communities receive when young people participate in this way, and provides recommendations for developing a similar youth participation program.
