Carlos Santana was born July 20, 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico. His father Jose Santana was a talented violinist and would be one of the main inspirations for Carlos Santana to pursue a musical career. His father pushed Santana to learn the violin at the young age of four, although Santana didn’t appreciate the hours of forced practice he says that it’s what made him so good at playing music. He was destined for greatness and is often regarded as a child prodigy in the musical community. Santana and his family moved from their home town to the border city of Tijuana in 1955 and the eight year old Santana was immediately captivated by the music culture in the city. The family moved to the city in order for his dad to find work playing for tourist and often Santana would also play song for pay on the streets to help his family cover bills. It was here that Carlos would find what he had been searching for, as if destiny had brought him to the right place at the right time. For the next five years, Carlos continued to evolve his own unique style of music that would later identify him as one of the most distinctive, innovative musicians of our time. In 1966, the music of Carlos Santana exploded on the streets of San Francisco with the debut performance of the Santana Blues Band. For the next two years, the Santana Blues Band was overwelmed by a wave of popularity that would take them from San Francisco's Fillmore West, to that historical performance in 1969 before 500,000 at the Woodstock Festival in New York.
He did this by mixing different types of musical rhythms. Manuel Maria Ponce is “one of Mexico’s most beloved figures in the world of classical music” (Encyclo.com). Ponce was born in Fresnillo, Mexico in 1882 and he died in Mexico City in 1948. Ponce was twelfth child of his parents, Felipe de Jesus Ponce Leon and María de Jesus Cuellar. Felipe de Jesus Ponce Leon fought in during Mexico’s revolution in 1867. Maria de Jesus Cuellar loved music and urged her children to learn it. Ponce received his first musical lesson when he was five years old by his sister Josefina whom was in the Templo de San Diego (St. Diego’s Temple) choir. When he was 12 years old the Cathedral of Aguascalient3es appointed him organist. This was the beginning for his carrier in music.

James Marshall Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle Washington. James faced a somewhat difficult childhood as he was faced with many obstacles. His father quickly divorced his alcoholic mother who later died in 1958. Years passed and Jimi continued living with his father and attending grade school. His father introduced him to the guitar at age 13 and taught him how to play. James grew fond of playing but never pursued it as a child.
