Caridina japonica
Elodea also known as Elodea canadensis is a genus of aquatic plants. They are also called waterweeds and is mainly used in aquarium vegetation. It plays a significant role in aquatic vegetation as it produces a significant amount of carbon dioxide under the perfect conditions. Elodea mainly grows in shallow water and can also be sometimes found in deep water. The plant for this experiment is kept in a water tank. We use elodea for this experiment as this is a very good plant that play a crucial part in our experiment. The amount of carbon dioxide produced by the plant during the experiment can be used to understand the rate of the reaction.
In past history, heroes come in many different facets of life. The military has produced many of these heroes. Chris Kyle a United States Navy SEAL was one of those heroes. Chris grew up in various locations in Texas. His father worked for AT&T as a manager and they moved around frequently. Chris loved to fight as he stated “Somewhere along the way, I started sticking up for younger kids who were being picked on. I felt I had to look out for them. It became my duty. Maybe it began because I was looking for an excuse to fight without getting in trouble” (American Sniper, Chris Kyle, 21).
As the German painter and sculptor, Kathe Kollwitz conveyed in her statement that the art she created held the burden of transfiguration. The fixation of sorrow and hardship that occurred while she sat huddled with the children was the driving force of her drawings. Her realization that art could not only be an escape from the horror happenings in Germany such as the rationing of food and the starving-to-death children at that time was also a way to voice her opinion of change and revolution. It was the quest, in which she enamored in her drawings and it is this feeling that I value from it. I choose this artist because she delineated the various circumstances surrounding the human individual, she took into account perspectives that involved life with its tragedies, and the lives of little angel children. Her drawings and sculptures were prepared to emulate and capture what her eyes had seen while she was in Germany and this is why I had taken a likening to her drawings. The two artworks that I am specifying in this research paper is the drawing labeled “Germany's children starve!” and”Self-Portrait, Hand at the Forehead (Selbstbildnis mit der Hand an der Stirn)”.

When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan on December 1979, the goal was to help Afghan communist forces set up a communist government. The Soviet Union felt Afghanistan had key resources and a foothold in the Middle East to spread communist ideas. The result would be a war that the Soviet Union wishes it never got involved in and likened to their “Vietnam War”, meaning winning a number of battles but not the war like what happened to the U.S. in Vietnam. The background of the war, outcome of the war, and impact on the United States are key to understanding the Soviet-Afghan War.
I used to love fish. Ever since I was a toddler I loved everything fish themed! ‘Rainbow Fish’, by Marcus Pfister, was one of my favorite children’s books and I even had a lot of Rainbow fish themed stuffed animals and toys. “Mom, can you read me Rainbow Fish again?” I said while I layed on my stomach with my face down on the pillow. “Ok Sweetie.”, My mom said with a smile on her face, probably for the 5th time that night. One of my favorite movies as a child was Finding Nemo. I had to have sat down on the couch at least once a week to watch Finding Nemo, and take in the beauty of the ocean and all the cute little animated fishies. I had an ocean themed bathroom. I was too careless as a child to really care about the decor, as I picked my tooth

Ever since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution at the end of the 18th century, fossil fuels have been used constantly, slowly changing the planet’s atmosphere. According to Mann, “the preindustrial level of CO2 was 280 parts per million (ppm)” (N. pag). He predicts that at current rates, we will reach 560 ppm by the end of the 21st century. To make matters worse, Mann states that 450 ppm is dangerous as it will cause an increase in Earth’s average temperature by 2 Celsius. He recommends taking measures to keep CO2 at less than 405 ppm (N. pag). Mann takes note that in 2013, the value managed to reach 400 ppm (N. pag). It is needless to say that the point of no return is right around the corner. Unfortunately, the affects of pollution are already felt around the world. Pollution can cause many health issues and damage several organs in the body. When people think ...
The setting shows a world of opposing ideals, contrasting the weight and solidification of the port and land with the open and free sailor life that Ryuji has been living. This realm of opposites is bolstered by the physical environment in which the characters are placed. Yokohama, a busy Japanese shipping town, is an ideal representation of conflicting spheres. As the city is the ideal connection amidst land and sea, the ocean plays a vital point in connecting the differing ideologies present in the novel. As the plot begins, Fusako and Ryuji’s affair show how Ryuji attempted to overcome the grasp of sealife. The scene of consummation shows the elements of land and sea, Fusako and Ryuji respectively, in perfect harmony with each other as “the universal order [was] at last achieved” (13). The simply beautiful act of sex becomes su...
Aquariums have been around since 50 AD. The romans were the first to introduce glass panes, making it easier to view the fish. They would keep small tanks made of marble under their guest’s beds before the glass panes were introduced. Around 1369 the Chinese were using porcelain tubs to hold their goldfish, and with time the modern fish bowls were shaped. In the 19th century an inventor named Dr. Nathanial Bagshaw Ward began to put plants and toy fish into his aquariums. It began to create a movement that became a hobby for many people and even spreading to the United States. Then in 1853 the first large public aquarium opened in the London Zoo. Finally in the beginning of the 20th century the first mechanical aquarium air pump was invented and was powered by running water instead of electricity. Along with the improvement of filtration techniques the other great innovation was switch from glass to plexi-glass and later acrylic panels. With glass it was sometimes very hard to see the animals since it would distort the view with the increase of width. When acrylic technology came around windows could be a lot thicker without distortion, and could be a lot larger as well. With these design innovations aquariums can hold over 8 million gallons of water, both marine and fresh. They have millions of visitors ever year that go to see over 90,000 animals and 400 different species, from small fish like piranhas and clown fish, to large mammals like killer whales and dolphins. Most of...
Seagrass is on the decline around the world and it is an extremely vital marine ecosystem found in shallow water mainly distributed throughout tropical seas, from a temperature around 4oC to 24oC (Green and Short 2003). They are the only true flowering plant (angiosperm) to live in aquatic conditions providing support and shelter for vast amounts of species (Orth et al. 2006; Jackson et al. 2001). They are a marine aquatic plant and a keystone species for many coastal areas found all over the world (Libralato, Christensen and Pauly 2006). Although there is not a huge variety of species, there are only around 60 species globally and over 14% of them are endangered (Green and Short 2003; Orth et al. 2006). The different seagrass ecosystems perform relatively similarly throughout the varying species (Turner and Schwarz 2006). This study will examine the various importances of seagrass and to what extent they are vital for the survival of species within their ecosystem. In addition to this, the role of seagrass in important ecosystem processes will be examined. The abundance of coastal regions are closely linked with seagrasses as they greatly contribute to productivity. Seagrass meadows are highly productive and are ideal for nurseries and providing a relatively safe habitat and shelter from predators (Hughes et al. (2008).
