The professional development interview was very insightful because it provided me with useful knowledge and information for the career path I hope to follow. I conducted my interview with Dr. Julia Felton, who is a child clinical psychologist and a faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park. In addition to working as a researcher and Director of the Clinical Psychological Sciences Masters Program, she also works in a private practice, providing clinical care to primarily children and adolescences. Her research focuses on Dr. Felton’s research focuses broadly on gender differences in developmental psychopathology.

Organizations who are reluctant to adapt, will decrease their new hires due to this becoming a motivational need most people will look for, like they look for security today.

Nursing homes are for people who do not have the ability to take care of themselves in their own home. They are similar to hospitals, they provide medical care, physical care, and speech and occupational therapy. For this assignment I was asked to go to a nursing home and ask the facility questions and make my own observations. I was able to choose a facility easily due to the day my mom has been a CNA at the Gorham house for about two years. She works in the unit where people are mostly in the last stages of their lives, so they require a lot of assistance. After being able to make my quick visit, I was able to ask many questions and made observations on what it is like to work and to live in these facilities.

A caregiver is someone who is engaged in recognizing services needed, acquiring those services and most often providing services while at the same time navigating the complexity that is healthcare today. Someone who tends to the needs of another such as a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend. Often a caregiver finds himself or herself lacking in support, education or training and often compensation.
My choice to become a part of the childcare profession was not just made casually. This decision was the result of a thought process about what I wanted to do with my life. I finally took a career in childcare because I believe that it is one of the most important duties performed in the community. Within this profession, I hope to find both personal and professional accomplishment. Hence, it is my desire to be a part of a noble profession.
Wayne and Kate is a middle-aged couple who have been together for many years. Their life was great before expanding their family. They used to go out every weekend and splurge. That changed when they had children, who were a real joy adding meaning to their lives but they proof to be financially taxing. Over time, Wayne and Kate had two children, who now are five, and eight years old. Because Wayne and Kate both work, they had to utilize childcare. Childcare proof to be expensive, however Wayne’s job offered childcare reimbursement. Otherwise, their finances would be too tight for the couple to cover costs. Wayne had a good position with the company, unfortunately his employer sold out to another company, which offered a different benefit package.

Social workers are viewed by the world to be “fixers” in society. The general public sees social workers as just “people who work in child protective services”, they do not know about the other things that social workers are also involved in. I interviewed, Stuart Brewster, a therapist for children and families, he graduated from the university of Washington with a masters degree in social work.
Need to know: The care takers need to know why they have to learn about something before undertaking to learn it. Knowles added a few aspects to the need to know (a) need to know how learning will be conducted, (b) what learning will occur and (c) why the learning is important (Knowles, Holton and Swanson 1998).The teaching should focus from known to unknown and assess what they already know. This principle applies to this study because assessing the knowledge of the caregiver will help the educator or the provider will get an idea what they know or what they don’t.
I learnt that the use of words or expressions such as ‘that’s brilliant’ can be misinterpreted by some clients to mean that you agree with what they have done. I often use expressions like that in conversations. I am now aware that it can be misunderstood and would like to guard against it. We watched a Youtube video, two social workers called out to a service user flat for an initial assessment. They were refused entry by a friend because he had bad experience with social workers in the past and his child was taken away.
...th the patient I kept thinking that if this were my mother how would I want the nurse to treat her. I tried to behave in the way I would expect a nurse to treat me. I had preconceived notions before meeting the patient and they were all laid to rest almost immediately, honestly I was nervous. But once I started it began to feel comfortable and the interview just flowed naturally.
