Through the past three years I’ve spent at high school, I have developed and have grown intellectually. I have grown as a problem solver and decision maker in terms of using my skills in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science. Mathematics and science in particular have helped me analyze situations and manipulate the variables in order to see things in different perspectives. I have learnt that in order to come to a solution or decision you have to take into consideration many different factors as we would in mathematics and science. In career transitions in particular I was given many opportunities to research potential career paths, and schools. I was also given the opportunity to ask questions not only from my teachers and counselors, but also actual staff representing Universities. I appreciate the support provided to me, because it has helped alleviate a lot of the stress that comes along with graduating and choosing a career. I am now more confident when thinking about my future and what I want to study in post-secondary. I have gained experience in planning for, and working towards, career and life goals most specifically through completing this transitions package and the Career Transitions course. I had never given much thought to my future, as I always thought it was always so far away, however June keeps drawing closer and closer. The course and this package forced me to seriously put in the time and effort to think about my future, and where I want to be in the future. I have learnt what my priorities are and what I want from my life, in terms of personal, social, intellectual, and career
For anyone, there are time when things are going to change whether the change is planned or not. For military families change and loss often are not planned, and they have no choice in the matter. For any one person or family to move through change or loss it is important to go through the steps of transition, also know by Hall (2008) as the transition journey. The three phases of the transition journey that have their own focus and tasks are endings, neutral zone, and new beginnings (Hall, 2008). Not everyone follows the transition journey exactly, but this is a good example and tool to help individuals and families through the process. The three phases of the transition journey are going to be explained in further detail in this paper.
The theory that best fits Gladys's career development is Schlossberg's Adult Career Development Transition Model. The reason in which I chose this specific model because there is a focus on transition in this model and that is what Gladys has experienced. For most of Gladys's life, she was planning on going to medical school. Her life revolved around the sciences and majority of her employment history was in the medical field. Schlossberg's model covers what Gladys went through when she did not get into medical school and had to figure out what else to do with her life. Gladys's life took an unanticipated turn and using Schlossberg's model I can better describe what Gladys was going through and how she made the decision to change career
Today, school is supposed to act as a medium in preparing students for their lives in the workforce, yet the way school is taught has not changed in over one hundred years. Career and Technical Education is one example of something that can help students to learn in areas that they may be interested in. Today there should be a change in the way school is taught to help students. As an international undergraduate student earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Suffolk University, I had every intention of becoming a Scientist. However, while I completed an internship, a few part time positions and full time administrative/support positions in the field, I realized that I no longer desired to pursue this as a career. Although I valued doing hands-on research, and assisting people in bettering themselves, I found that the field did not call for the formation of more skills, relationships or engaging in mutual mentorship with other scientist to the level that I desired and had experienced through interactions with fellow researchers as a young professional. As a result of this realization, I decided to apply for a lab inventory specialist position in a pharmaceutical company after graduation.
Throughout my undergraduate career, I have faced many challenges that made it difficult for me to perform well academically. Some were unexpected and others were due to overcommitment by not understanding my limits. I dedicated most of my time developing myself to become a well-rounded individual by participating in various activities, taking leadership roles, and trying to maintain good grades in school. The researcher aims to explore the professional journey of two couples in the medical profession. These two couples were being observed by the researcher for many years now, and it was noticed that one of the couples expanded their profession while the other appeared to have decayed in their profession. It is possible that whatever is apparent is not the story. Each one has a different story; some people seem to be overtly successful in their lives while the others do not. It is possible that the couples might consider them successful or might not consider at all. As success is a very subjective term, what is more important is the journey that one travels through to achieve what is desired. Journey is all about how one avails the opportunities at hand and deals with the threats encountered. How one copes with the stresses in professional and personal front. How does decision making influences the life journey and how satisfied a person ultimately feels.

As I reflect and look at my career journey, I realize that I have not really had a career journey. I have held a few jobs; however, I have not had a job I would consider my career yet. Furthermore, I only worked for a couple of months in each of the jobs I had in the past. Currently, I do not have a job yet, and I realize that I am now 24 years of age and should be starting my way to my career. When I was a kid I dreamt of being a princess. Every little girls dream right? When I became an adolescent I realized that was not realistic and I would soon have to choose a real career. Growing up I was always told to choose a profession that would make me a lot of money. I was told to go to college get an education and make something of myself. I thought about becoming a doctor but soon decided that, that was way too much school. I settled with becoming a nurse. Not quite a doctor but still a great profession and I would still make a decent amount of money. After spending a week volunteering at a middle school I had an epiphany and was finally clear on what my true career path should be.
