Successful healthcare organizations must utilize leaders who understand the importance of coaching employees. Managers must coach employees to keep them competent and to keep them working toward a common goal with the organization’s vision in mind. Leaders must assess employee’s abilities and plan interventions based on the assessment. The purpose of this paper is to review the coaching process, assess an individual’s abilities and weaknesses, and use the six-step coaching process to develop a coaching plan for the individual.
Importance of Coaching Coaching is the practice of providing guidance through comments or conferences to an individual or individuals to assist the advancement of skills and abilities (Manion, 2011). Also, coaching is a process where leaders attempt to improve an employee’s performance by giving continued feedback (Lussier & Hendon, 2016). Individuals often have many talents, but require support or direction to utilize their skills. A high-stress work environment can cause a decrease in job satisfaction, anxiety, nurse burnout, and a decline in job loyalty (Rushton, Batcheller, Schroeder, & Donohue, 2015). Employees in these high-stress areas need to bed coached by leaders to help motivate and inspire them.

Coach was founded in 1941 in New York City. Coach is a highly reputable company that uses its strategies to stay competitive in the luxury industry. In the following I will present Coach’s business strategy and evidence to prove why they successfully maintain a competitive advantage.
The Stages of a Coaching Process The coaching process is a very complex endeavor, created to change the course of someone’s life. Besides this, it is a very well-organized process. You cannot skip a stage or be shallow about another, because the outcome of the coaching process will not be the desired one. Besides this, not everybody finds it easy to make changes in their lives, even if those changes will bring greater benefits. Thus, it is important for a coachee to go through each step of the coaching process thoroughly and not pass on to the next one without completing the previous.
There are many different assessment models developed which enable the coach to assess the client from a number of varied perspectives. The majority of these models are simply used as a tool, providing a schema for noting observations. An ideal assessment model is an instrument used to obtain structure within the framework of the coaching encounter. The coach is never limited to the parameters of the model, but the model should provide a guide in the evaluation of the client. In other words, the model allows the coach to develop a frame of reference for client observation. Although, there is no single correct coaching model, the coach must rely on a broad range of coaching techniques to adequately assess the client’s condition and present circumstance. It is the multiplicity of views that offers the greatest coaching models (Watts & Corrie, 2013).
The goals include training on leadership. The objective is for management to gain the proper skills to effectively lead teams, resolve conflicts, and better their management abilities. The training will address employee turnovers to low wages, effective communication strategies, and effective leadership. Management will become more strategic in selecting the right candidates to fill positions. The knowledge and skills attained will be that managers will become better leaders by becoming more empathetic. Employees will begin to feel appreciated and become more motivated. As a result, the company’s morale will be boosted and there will be less consumer complaints about bad customer service.
If I were Alex, I would use the amiable coaching style to help James stay productive and perform to the best of his abilities. One main concept of this coaching style is to connect with the employee on a personal level and develop the employee. James seems to be very smart, but he needs someone to show interest in himself and truly want him to succeed. According to Hicks and McCracken (2009), the coaching process assists a person to think through and self-discover what action that person needs to take, and although a coach might point out possible answers. The key is to facilitate a coachee’s self-discovery. In addition, Griffiths and Campbell (2009) stated that the coaching process is goal-oriented. However, problem analysis is not a part of the coaching process. Instead, it involves helping person to find one’s own path forward. Thus, one way is to make the person identifies goals that one wants to move towards (Hicks & McCracken, 2010).

My ethical and moral views, beliefs, attitudes and values have been fashioned by an up bringing that centred on Christian beliefs. Even though religion was not forced upon me as a child, my mother raised us all with a strong sense of right and wrong. Along with the influence of my family, the Navy has had a big influence on the person I am. The Navy has a strong ethos of what is expected of the personnel that serve; this is made up of the following: Leadership, High Professional Standards, and Courage in Adversity, Determination, Loyalty, Mutual Respect, Discipline, A Sense of Humour, Teamwork, and A Can Do Attitude. Most recently of all though, the biggest thing that has influenced me as a person and a parent has been my experiences of working with young people. This includes acting as a Youth Advisor for Portsmouth City Council, a Mentor for Barnardos and a Youth Advisor for East Sussex County Council. I am currently working in two secondary schools as part of my resettlement from the Navy. This has given me the experience of working with young people living in virtual poverty, in constant trouble with the Police and education services and some young people with varying levels of disabilities. This work has given me a good ability to stay impartial, to be non judgemental and has given me a capacity to treat people a lot more emphatically than I was ever able to. This is because I have been exposed to a greater range of problems and personalities than I have been used to in the Navy. These are qualities that I will hopefully be able to transfer into my coaching practice.

The coaching responsibility is to be in control, leading a team or individuals. The athletes are to respect their coaches, to perform a certain way, and to follow the coach’s directions. The Social Role Theory (SRT) offers an understanding as to why gender issues may occur within the coach and athlete relationship. “SRT is the belief that men and women act and behave differently in social situations and take different roles, due to the expectation that society puts upon them (Sullivan, 2015).” This theory argues that women’s roles position them as nurturers and care givers that reveal collective qualities.
