Anthony Robbins has through his books helped me grow my understanding on what it means to be a life coach and how it can change people’s lives. He is expienced in his field and has held many seminars talking to people about strategies they can use to improve their life. One area he teaches in is business strategies where he helps to improve business performance and increase productivity. This is an area of interest to me considering that I have always wanted to own my own business. One leading factor of why I wanted to own my own business is because I want to create an environment to which people want to go to work every day. Don’t just work, work were you
“There are so many great organizations out there helping people get their life on track, it would be rewarding to be a part of that healing process of guiding people to set meaningful goals that will impact their future in a positive way.”
Personal coaching as defined by Biswas – Diener (2009) is a professional relationship in which coaches work with clients to facilitate experiential learning and improve functioning and performance, of in the context of working toward specific goals. Some core assumptions that people have an innate capacity to grow and develop a focus on mutually agreed upon goals, and an understanding that the relationship is relatively equal and collaborative as stated by the author (2009). Some techniques that are in seen during a coaching process include but are not limited to the following list as provided by the author: active listening, the use of powerful questions which are based on broad and open-ended to raise awareness of the client to take stock of their values and resources, cognitive tools are used to reframe negative interpretations, use different types of encouragement tools, and that clients are held accountable (2009). The topics that will be discussed in this paper include what skills do I current have, which skills need to be develop, my comfort level and effectiveness, coaching approaches (including methods and tools), any challenges about coaching and finally how coaching relates to my professional career.
The author shows how coaching differs from counseling. To start with, Collins supposes that counseling focuses on negative psychology that includes dealing with conflicts, spiritual struggles, and emotional matters like depression, while coaching focuses on improving team-building and performance, career growth and finding fulfillment (2009). According Collins, counseling fixes what is wrong, while coaching enables individuals to reach their goals. Coaching is centered on the present and future likelihood, getting unstuck and attaining the set goals, while counseling is centered on causes of the problems that are as a result of the past, and attaining healing and stability.
The relationship between counsellor and client is a collaborative one, the counsellor should be aware of their own world in order to help the client work out their meaning in life. They must respect and have belief in the client to discover other ways of being.

Some would consider hiring a life coach to get there. But it does not come for free. You may need to spend some. What does a life coach do exactly? Life coaching is not a new concept. One of the secrets of very successful people is a coach. A life coach helps you get to where you want to be in life or in their business or both. Whether you call them as a coach, advisor or mentor, they are here to help you identify your goals and will motivate you to realize those goals into a reality.
I am an ICF Certified Life Coach focusing on Walking and Healthy Lifestyle Coaching. I am passionate about exercise and living a healthy lifestyle and the positive effects it can have on a person’s life. I know this from experience. I was living an unhealthy lifestyle as a binge eater and a semi-pro couch potato. When I started to exercise it gave me the self-discipline I needed to change everything that wasn’t working in my life. It increased my self-esteem and gave me a positive new outlook. Because of the changes exercise brought to my life, I feel compelled to carry that message forward in my coaching business. In my coaching, I focus on how the mind and body do work together. People need someone who believes in them, and can motivate them,
I always knew, without a doubt, that I would attend college. From the time I was very young, it was instilled in me by the adults in my life that going to college and furthering my education was my best shot at being successful. Now that I am partaking on this journey, I can only hope that those people were right.
A counselor gives guidance on psychological, personal and or social problems within their life. Most counselors can be found working in a hospital, rehabilitation and counseling facilities. A master’s degree is needed to be able to work with psychiatrists and psychotherapist. A counselor not only works with individuals but couple and families as well. Counselors give their client the ability to live independently, whether they have a mental disability or physical. Also, counselors like to give keys to success when it comes to education. They want to make sure the client has access to what they need to be successful.
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
Coaching via Coaches help all sorts of people move forward in life as they specialize in meeting the needs of a wide variety of people with their own unique challenges and opportunities. Coaching makes a lasting impact on people’s lives because the coaching relationship developed between the Coach and the Client leads to constant growth and change in the Client. The client is leading the conversation by stating what their biggest concerns are currently in their life. They verbalize the concerns and issues that need changed in their lives. The counselor is there to be empathic to the client and establish a relationship with them. This part of the interview is where the client decides if the counselor is right for them, if not, then the client moves on to another
“People are remarkably bad at remembering long lists of goals. One may have learned this at a professional level when trying to get my high-performance coaching clients to stay on track; the longer their lists of to-dos and goals, the more overwhelmed and off-track they got. Clarity comes with simplicity.” As a child he always looked at being able to play or coach a sport at the professional level. For the reason of me just loving the game of Basketball. The career of a Professional Coach is a challenging and fun career, because of the level of competition and it’s a dream job. The research will describe the career of
One theme of the book that stands out is the counselor as a person and a professional. It is impossible to completely separate one’s personal and professional lives. Each person brings to the table certain characteristics of themselves and this could include such things as values, personality traits and experiences. A great point that Corey, Corey, and Callahan (2010) make is to seek personal therapy. Talking with colleagues or a therapist will keep counselors on their toes and allow them to work out any issues that may arise. This could also prevent counselors from getting into a bad situation. Another good point made in this book was counter transference. Therapists are going to have an opinion and some reactions are going to show through. It is not easy to hide one’s emotions, but a good therapist will keep the objective in sight and keep moving forward. After all, the help counselors are providing is for the client.
Seeking the services of a career counselor can provide many benefits. One can gain a deeper understanding of him/herself, gain information on education and careers, gain sills in decision-making, gain support in conducting a job search or applying to higher education, and gain support coping with career transitions (NCDA, “Why Seek Career Counseling, 2007). How a career counselor provides services depends on his or her theoretical approach to career counseling.
