All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
In my experiences, I have found pinpointing a career and channeling my aspirations extremely difficult tasks. That being said, like most difficult endeavors in life, there exists extraordinary reward. Through research, soul searching, and trial and error, I realize that I aspire to make an impact in as many people’s lives as possible, while still taking care of myself and my future family. That is where dentistry comes in to play.
Becoming a Medical Assistant believe it or not is an awesome career. Being able to be on the inside and handling emergency hands on is what I will be experiencing. Medical Assistants overall have many job duties and I might add if you are a busy person and you have the urge to help others, then this job is for you. Overall, the objective is to point out the duties, various opportunities and what you will be able to accomplish in the role as a Medical Assistant.
The summer of my junior year of highschool I became a Certified Nurses Assistant. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The process wasn't easy, but the rewards are great. Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant has helped me support my daughter and allowed me to help other people when they need it. It was my first experience with having a real job in my chosen career the healthcare field.
I have found it very interesting how all of the pieces of my undergraduate degree fit work together: physics, biology, chemistry, and social sciences. I am excited to see how, in the same way, all of the facets of dentistry work together, and how they build on my current knowledge. I have always been a hands-on learner and I love that even though dentists are technically in an office, it still has the feel of a lab and not a cubicle. I love that although the list of procedures is the same every case/patient is unique/new challenge while still having a nice, familiar routine to
I can remember coming to school and hearing all my classmates talk about how much they hated going to the dentist. Going to the dentist was one thing that I have always loved to do. The sound of the tools and just the smell of the clinic was never a bad atmosphere to me, I actually enjoy the dentist. Laura was my first dental hygienist from as far back as I can remember, and she had the whitest teeth I have ever seen! I have honestly came to the conclusion that I am obsessed with teeth. With this being said, I have always felt and known that I wanted to be a dental hygienist. I am currently in my first year here at Community College getting my preq for dental hygiene. I always get the question, “Why would you want to look in somebody’s mouth all day?” After I hear this question and then I start thinking to myself. I want to be a dental hygienist because first of all someone has got to do it and secondly, I think smiles light up rooms and if I can help get more smiles in this world then that is what I am going to do. With seeking my career in dental hygiene I have great hopes of being able to help people understand and find compassion in caring for their teeth and inspiring them as Laura inspired me.
There are more than 150,000 registered dental hygienists in the United States (Callahan). Hygienists are licensed oral health professionals who focus on preventing and treating oral diseases-both to protect teeth and gums, and also to protect patients' total health. They are graduates of accredited dental hygiene education programs in colleges and universities, and must take a written national board examination and a clinical examination before they are licensed to practice. In addition to treating patients directly, dental hygienists may also work as educators, researchers, and administrators (Bessner).
It's important for any high school student to have an idea or plan of what they want to pursue in the near future. Most students want to go into the medical field, become a professional athlete, a lawyer, etc. Many talk about becoming a dentist, but not a dental assistant. Simply because they feel like it's not that big of a title of being a dental assistant as compared to a dentist. Little do they know dental assistants play a big role as well in the office. A dental assistant does many tasks and duties that help benefit the dentist and also the patients.
The Healthcare Professional that I chose is a Dental Assistant. The reason why I chose to use a dental assistant as the Healthcare Professional was because I think that they are very important along with the dentists. Without dental assistants, dentist’s jobs would be more stressful than it already is in their job. Dental assistants greatly increase the efficiency of the dentist in the delivery of quality oral health care are valuable members of the dental care team.
The career I have chosen for my future is to become a registered dental hygienist. It wasn’t until I actually learned what dental hygienists do that influenced my interest from medical to dentistry. The first honest reason I was gravitated to dental hygiene was because of the salary. I didn’t really know what Dental Hygienist actually did until I did some research.
1)Why do you want to be a Dental Assistant? I love people and that is why I want to become a Dental assistant. Being a huge people person and I'm always willing to learn, adapting is essential to this line of work and that is why I will be a perfect fit for the dental assistant program. Getting to know the patients and spending time with them is one of the reasons I am really looking forward to my future as a DA. I am an empathetic person and easily relate to others. This will really help me to be able to provide my patients with the best possible care. Originally I had planned on applying to Manhattan Area Technical College for their Dental Hygienist program. They require that all applicants have a minimum of forty hours experience shadowing
I became interested in osteopathic medicine when I entered high school. As I was applying for high school I knew that I wanted to be part of the medical field but I did not really look into the high schools that offered any sort of programs that can help me gain experience. I discovered my high school when my cousin told me her high school offered a medical assistant program. When the science department accepted me into the program in my sophomore year, I did not know what to expect. I thought the program would just be an extra class I will be taking in high school, a class that will be teaching me the basics of anatomy, pathology, etc. However, this program exceeded my expectations, it showed me so much more than I thought and showed me how
My interest in nursing began at age 18 at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut where I was trained as a Certified Care Partner, then as a Phlebotomist, followed by a two year surgical floor assignment and a one year burn unit stint.
I started volunteering at a young age. My first experience was at Forgotten Harvest, an organization that cleans food and gives it to those who are in need. I cleaned squash that day and it wasn’t easy. I was thinking to myself, how is this going to help anybody? It wasn’t until after I had seen where the squash I cleaned had gone, that I realized what I did went a long way. The joy on those people's faces made everything worth it. For them to be so happy with just receiving vegetables like squash and carrots, it made me realize that doing so little could make a world of a difference. That was the first day I realized what I wanted to go into when I was older. I was around fourteen at the time when it clicked that I wanted to make people feel better both physically and mentally. I figured a doctor is my obvious choice, so the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor would be the perfect school for me.
I believe a leader is an individual who inspires, motivates, and influence on someone who has an array of decisions to make. I am that leader.
