Teachers are also under a tremendous amount of stress from parents, administrations and themselves. However, every teacher has his or her good and bad days. In conclusion, teachers help shape what we choose to have as a career. It takes a great deal of work and patience but the end result makes it all worth it. There are a substantial amount of obstacles that they need to pass such as finishing school, receiving a bachelor’s or master’s degree (depending on the state) and going forward to obtain a teaching certification.
Just as every student before you and every student that will come after you, final examinations can be very frustrating and stressful. Proper testing preparation combined with skilled testing strategies can help anyone overcome those examination nightmares. Being well prepared for the big examination day starts long before the final examination is ever conducted. Beginning with the first day of class, preparation and planning for the final examination should be initiated. According to Hay (1996) keeping up to date with all lessons taught in class, such as assigned readings, class projects, and class lectures, will provide a better understanding and will help students to remember class materials when examination day arrives.
Meanwhile, I was always behind my classmates in basic math and English skills. All through elementary and middle school, I was enrolled in extra classes for reading, writing and math, all because my reading and writing was so weak. Comprehension was a big problem, and I had to learn to pick apart instructions to get the answers that were needed. Work was not something that I minded but I did have to work hard. I worked hard everyday because I knew that this was something I needed to do.
After looking at schools where I grew up and learning from my experience, the purpose of school all depends on the school and the teacher. In school I have seen teachers just slack off and try to get the students to memorize their material so that the teacher can get paid. There are also teachers who like to put effort into their students and help them learn and further their knowledge of their subjects. In sight of all of this we must still ask what it takes to be considered educated. Education is the focus of the teachers, and the teachers have to discern the education of a student as they put them through their different classes.
I would do my required schoolwork, memorizing only the required elements so I could do well on the exams. Once done with my school for the day, and often when I was not done, I would research my interests to my heart 's content. The reading required of me always took me far longer than any I did for pleasure because I wasn 't looking to make it interesting. This might have gone on for a long time and I would have continued separating my education and not making it my own if I hadn 't had teachers who required me to start owning my education. They required me to choose my own topics, within their guidance, for research or writing.
When you work on a school project or homework (such as essays, presentations, posters, online websites, etc.) it teaches you to work hard on whatever you are doing, even if it frustrates you (that is when I work especially hard). When you care about your own education, then you are more motivated to work even harder. I am a perfectionist, so it is sometimes hard for me to get things done when they are not perfect. Recently, I worked on a project for so long (working out every little detail) that my mom had to tell me to stop working on it!
There are many disadvantages that can come of a pass and fail grading system, but perhaps the worst of all is the loss of a quality student. The quality student that all schools want to see first begins to deteriorate due to this new system through loss of motivation. Imagine being that kid, the kid who has always been at the top because they work hard at what they do. You’re up until midnight trying to finish your persuasive essay but once you realize you’re done you believe it was all worth it because you did your best and concocted an essay sure to get an A. Next week you are sitting in your classroom and your teacher passes back the essays.
The next example is about studying. For any class you may be attending it is always a good idea to recopy the notes for that class on a daily basis. Your teacher may go fast and your trying to get all the information, sometimes you may not even be able to read your own hand writing. When you’re done recopying your notes review them as you reread the chapter lesson so you understand the information. If there are any questions, you will then have an opportunity to ask your teacher to go back over the notes where you may have missed something so that you understand it.
Instructional Strategies Paper When get involved in a class room as a teacher or a practitioner you will see many different instructional strategies that teachers may use. These strategies may change from teacher to teacher and grade level to grade level because not all strategies work for everyone. That is one that that Mrs. Franzmeier told me was that I need to find instructional strategies that work for me and for the way I teach. She told me that it is something that sitting in a classroom listening to a professor all day can teach you. She said that you need to be in the classroom getting hands on experience to gain the knowledge.
We addressed this issue throughout the unit and especially as the basic background to the whole unit. The weakness of my Unit Plan was at times I felt like I had to do too much of the interactive PowerPoint, to address some background information for each topic or group of people that was introduced. That took some valuable time out of the total time I had for my unit. Many times I felt that I was rushing through parts of my unit due to SGO’s, testing, assemblies, fire drills, or lockdowns. This is common for every teacher I just need to work on better adapting to the situation and changing my... ... middle of paper ... ...
